I don't know enough about nostr to understand how that deals with this differently. Would you explain?

Your account on nostr is just a keypair. It isn’t tied to a server so if a server shuts down, you don’t lose your account.

People should actually read the article instead of just shitting on the fediverse.
The admin had an actual IRL reason to stop, didn't want to break users trust by making someone else admin and because it's a federation, users can and should just move to another instance.

I'm on Bitcoin Mastodon ( BitcoinHackers.org ) but let's say they were to do the same, ... can I replicate my posts (i.e, export and then import) into a different Mastodon server?
I know I can do the alias thing, but once the server to be decommissioned goes offline, the alias doesn't work anymore.
I don't see any way to export or transfer my posts in Mastodon.

In my experience it's not smooth and yeah you lose posts and followers and other stuff if things don't work perfectly and the admins have to get involved.
