With the latest updates, now Blockstream Green Wallet have the option to buy BTC straight from the wallet.
Is interesting that Blockstream made this partnership with a shitcoin company and not using some better brokers.
BE AWARE, this post is just FYI:
  • it redirect to a meld.io (a shitcoin company) as intermediary for this exchange
  • you can receive into your LN wallet, but the exchange from meld.io is sending first to an onchain address (managed by Greenlight) and from there you receive into your LN Green wallet.
  • you can pay with VISA cards, bank transfer, google pay
  • it doesn't ask for any KYC verification, but for sure is linking that visa card identity with the BTC address and then to your LN wallet.
So proceed with caution. I would use this only in case of emergency and also once you spend the sats from that LN node, emptying the channel, remove the Greenlight node and start a new one if you need it.
Wow. This strikes me as a bit deceptive. Do they make the security concerns clear?
reply
nope. once you click buy button, it redirect you to that shitcoin page outside the app. Is kind of messy. I really don't know why Blockstream went so low level. Or maybe are they just testing.
reply
Im sure they are trying to draw in new people who dont understand the ecosystem so well.

That's why P2P Lightning Network. Here anyway, since you have to use VPN to use the Green wallet, you can't buy through that route, and we don't have a Visa card. lol
reply
hahaha yes, this option definitely is not for you in Cuba 😂😂
btw, did you tired Green wallet LN ? It could be an option for you guys down there, with your high latency internet. Is not a bad LN wallet. Here is a guide https://darth-coin.github.io/wallets/getting-started-greenwallet-en.html

I'll check it out soon. Here with such slow internet, Phoenix works like a charm for us as self-custody. Now I'm going to explore Phoenixd on the laptop. Greenwallet only works with VPN.

Green it should sync fast, like Phoenix. Also you do not have to deal with managing LN channels, liquidity etc. read carefully that guide before you start using it.

Good, on top of that you can add a Alby Hub and create accounts for family and friends, and they can use it with Alby Go, a simple mobile app companion for Alby Hub.

SURPRISE!!!!
I opened Greenwellet without VPN!!!!
Now yes. Because I could see in the guide that it uses a system similar to Phoenix with the ACINQ node. Blockstream allows opening the channel with direct deposit in the Lightning Network.
So we have another option. Thanks friend for the guide.

I will strongly suggest, especially in your case, to not make first a small deposit. Better accumulate more sats into another LN wallet/custodial account and after that move them to Green.
It works same way as Phoenix, each time you deposit more sats and you do not have enough "space" in that channel, it will expand the channel but with a fee.
Instead opening a bigger channel, let's say 200-300k it will give you more space available, once you start spending from there and will not pay many times the fees.
I know very well what it means for you even 10k sats in fees.
Here is the guide in Spanish if you want to share it with other fellow cubans. https://darthcoin.substack.com/p/comenzando-green-wallet-lightning

Friend @DarthCoin, I live in a cursed country. Remember that I recently told you that GreenWallet opened without a VPN, something strange for me, because it is common that we have access to fewer and fewer services, so it should not happen that someone who regulated us, like Blockstream, deregulated us. Well, I have to use a VPN, and the rest is very similar to Phoenix. So I will continue with the good old Phoenix, until ACINQ allows it.

You know better what and how to use there. I am just presenting you the details so you can take the right decision before getting stuck in a bad situation.

Lol and then you buy it and then the green light invoice fails repeatedly FML

Thanks for the advice, I haven't seen that yet.

If you already use Green, on the bottom central "+"button it will open a popup with 2 options:
  • Buy
  • QR scanner

Is there still a way to buy BTC with nothing personal attached to it other than bisq and robosats? For me it feels like that's been like this for the past 4 years
reply
There are 10 different ways to do so man, where have you been ?
reply
where i was? in europe where 80% of your options make me fill out kyc

Out of all those links I think ramp is the only one without kyc in europe and imo still light kyc because they get my name
So robosats/bisq (and ramp) are still the only way in europe to get non-kyc btc

Another way to buy in a hurry, but may not be secure. Use with caution.
reply
yep, use with caution. I post this just as FYI.

Hmm, will check out. Probably could be a good option how to buy some Bitcoin for my company. As a private individual I prefer RoboSats and HodlHodl.
