I had the opportunity to attend to a football match in Anfield Road 19 years ago. My team, Real Betis, played against Liverpool in the group phase of the Champions League 2005-06. Liverpool was the defending champion that year. The result was 0-0, but this was the least important thing that day. What I will never forget is the environment, fans singing “You will never walk alone” and the whole experience around the match. If you have the opportunity to visit Anfield in a match day, don't miss it. Yesterday, while watching Liverpool vs Real Madrid, all these memories came back.
Thrilling match between these two football teams. Liverpool´s pace was incredible. Real Madrid only could follow them, and we hardly saw Liverpool’s goalkeeper (apart from his superb save to deny a goal to Mbappé from the penalty kick). The result, 2-0, leaves Liverpool at the top of the table and Real Madrid 24th, on the verge of getting eliminated from next round.
Inter and Barcelona follow the Reds. The surprising Brest has fallen to the 11th position after losing against Barça. Things are getting clearer but there are a bunch of clubs within a very close number of points, and anything can happen.
On fire
After 5 weeks, Liverpool is widening the gap to the rest of teams with 15 points. Inter, Barça, Dortmund and Atalanta follow them. Next, up to 7 teams have 10 points. So, everything can happen, and the distance is so short that any team could still qualify straight forward to the next round.
Hot zone
Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern and Juventus are in the middle area. Perhaps some of them were expected to be situated higher on the table but competition is tough. Citizens and Merengues are disappointing.
Freezing cold
PSG is losing the train. Two points behind Real Madrid, who is 24th, they remain out of the posts that qualify for the play-offs. Totally unexpected for the French side. They have 3 matches to turn things around.
Stacker rankings
@IamSINGLE has won this week, 18 points. @beorange almost reached her, but missing the Sporting vs Arsenal result cause him to finish up second. @grayruby recovered very well from his disappointing result last week and managed to end this week with 15 points. Congratulations to everyone!
After 5 weeks, @carresan carries on the lead with 59 points though, due to my poor performance (just 7 points), the gap with the chasing group is closing. @grayruby, thanks to his great result this week, has recovered the second place with 54 points. @ChrisS has fallen to third place, but only chasing by 1 point. Then @beorange, 52, and @undisciplined, 51, are within a short distance heading to the second half of the competition.
