Now that I have two Pikachu fanatics in my household, guess the first store we patronised during our visit to Japan.

It seems that the creators of Pokemon have a special collaboration with Mister Donut. Look at these intriguing offerings.

My son took this photo. He turned my phone to the landscape mode and said that he wanted to capture a bigger view of the doughnuts. That’s artistic intent in action.

I don’t really need him to score stellar academic results, but I do hope he will turn out to be an extraordinary photographer in the future. I think wicked photography skills are an useful asset even in the age of AI-saturated services.

These look great, I wonder if I could find them here in the US

reply

I can’t imagine Mister Donut has a strong presence in the States, given the prevalence of Dunking Donuts and Krispy Kreame haha

reply

According to Wikipedia, Mister Donut is Dunkin Donuts!

Mister Donut is an international chain of doughnut stores, operating mostly in Asia. It was founded in the United States in 1956 by Harry Winokur. Primary offerings include doughnuts, coffee, muffins and pastries. After being acquired by Allied Domecq in 1990, most of the North American stores became Dunkin' Donuts.

That makes me sad. I'm pretty sure Dunkin Donuts is not having a Pokemon themed donut

reply

I didn’t know these two stores are affiliated! But they taste so differently

reply

Dunkin' Donut seems like it's dying here in California. I bet if they rebranded to Mister Donut their popularity would skyrocket

reply

Maybe Mr. Donut has them here, too.

Kids have been going nuts over Pokémon for a long time now! Even the older ones go out with their smartphones and chase down Pokémon outside for exercise. They are now inescapable.

reply

Sure is a fuss-free way to maintain their connections with Nippon huh? Haha

reply

Yes, it is their chance to keep in practice for language, too. When we watch anime, we switch to Japanese language. The voices match the characters much better if you are used to the Japanese style of voicing.

reply

Definitely. Voiceovers just sound weird, no matter how competent the voice actors are

reply

I've noted that on many occasions. I refuse to watch Japanese anime in English voice over, at all. I have to change the languages to Japanese every time.
