"Economists across the political spectrum—everyone from Thomas Sowell to Paul Krugman—agree that rent control is economically detrimental, representing a fundamental infringement on personal economic liberties."
Everyone knows its a bad idea, yet it is still done.
That is why nyc has so many falling apart buildings....and cockroaches.
It's shameless pandering for votes.
Couldn’t it be the communist method of rousing up envy to bring down property owners? After all, the communists want to abolish private ownership of all properties.
Hmmmm……… where have I heard that recently? Oh yeah, “You will own nothing and be happy!”
Our overlords are hard at work to put us all in cages, fifteen minute, or otherwise.
Good point. It's shameless pandering and class warfare.
The class warfare seems to be a huge component of this sort of insanity. Plus the psychopaths enjoy their power to do this to people.
Is it just pandering, or does nyc actually have a problem with housing?
They have problems with housing, because no one wants to build housing if they can't charge enough to break even on it.
It's pandering, because the democrat party leadership know the policy will make the situation worse, but also that people will vote for it.
Isn’t that the dialectic in action? Create a problem, get a reaction and impose your communist solutions. The state wants to make problems because all the solutions require you to give up your freedoms and liberty.
Oh yes! Those gokiburi are the most disgusting creatures around. Just wait until you wake up with hem chewing on the calluses of your feet!
Thankfully, California voted down Prop 33, which was a pro-rent-control law this election cycle.
I was actually on the fence about Prop 33. Prop 33 formally would have given cities the ability to set their own rent control laws, whereas it was previously prevented by state law. So Prop 33 is pro local-control vs state-control.
I know the feeling. As much as I want everyone's freedoms protected, I would prefer local rule setting. That way I can just move to a sane place and all the crazies can move to their crazy places.
That brings to mind a question.
Why the hell did the media use the tags red and blue for political groups the way they did?
Traditionally, red is the color for communists, not nationalists or anticommunists.
Do you think it has to do with Yuri Bezmenov’s demoralization phase? I don’t think that it is the normalization phase, quite yet.
I don't recall where the colors came from, but they're probably older than communism.
Do they ever?
They will never learn
Why should they learn? The politicians rouse the envy of the proles and get their votes. Some of the proles get cheap housing that they didn’t earn. And the rest of the proles get a glimpse of cheap housing from their slums. Everybody is happy all round.
