Zimbabwe vs Pakistan Pakistan win by 10 wickets What a response from Pakistan after losing the first ODI. They were a team on a mission today. The spinners set the tone with Abrar leading the way and once Zimbabwe folded for 145. The chase of 146 was done and dusted in 18.2 overs. The whole game lasted just four hours with the 30-minute innings break taken account of. A maiden ODI ton for Ayub, it was a thumping 10-wicket win for Pakistan who level the series 1-1. Nothing went right for Zimbabwe and they need to go back to the drawing board ahead of the series decider on Thursday.

CricZap Cricket Lesson of the Day
Today's lesson is based on the question @grayruby asked me about the process of Mega Auction of players for Indian Premier League. It's gotten quite big over the years and many players now become multi-millionare in dollar terms by signing a deal to only play Cricket for 45 days event where they'll play a maximum of 15 matches. The biggest auction this year is $3 million. Can you believe it?
How does IPL Auction Work?
- The Indian Premier League (IPL) auction is a key event in the cricket calendar where franchise teams buy players for the upcoming season. Here’s a breakdown of how the auction works:
1. Player Registration
Players who wish to be part of the auction must register. They can choose their base price, which is the minimum amount teams can bid for them.
2. Auction Process
The auction is conducted in a live format, usually lasting several hours.
Teams have a set budget (salary cap) to spend on players, which varies by season.
Players are auctioned in sets, often categorized by their nationality, role (batsman, bowler, all-rounder), or previous performance.
3. Bidding
Franchise representatives place bids on players they want. The bidding process is competitive, with teams raising their paddles to indicate interest.
The highest bidder wins the player, and the amount is deducted from their budget.
4. Retained and Released Players
Before the auction, teams can retain a certain number of players from their previous squad. Others are released back into the auction pool.
Retained players are usually contracted at a set salary, while released players enter the auction at their declared base price.
5. Auction Strategy
Teams strategize based on their previous season performance, player availability, and team composition needs.
Teams may prioritize filling specific roles or acquiring star players to enhance their chances of winning.
6. Post-Auction
After the auction, teams finalize their squads and prepare for the season, which includes training camps and player management.
7. Salary Cap and Rules
Each franchise must adhere to the IPL's salary cap rules, which change periodically. This helps maintain competitive balance among teams.
Summary
The IPL auction is a dynamic and strategic event that shapes the teams for each season, involving tactics around player selection, budget management, and team composition. It’s a crucial part of what makes the IPL exciting and competitive.
