Welcome to the second episode of CricZap Cricket Today — Daily Discussion Thread. *(Here we not only get daily updates on Cricket but we also discuss anything Cricket related.)
Let's take a guard

Match Center Live (Schedule)

India start BGT 2024-25 with a dominant win.. Gabba 2021, Perth 2008, Adelaide 2003... India have had some historic wins in the past but this win has to be up on the list too. There was no Rohit, no Gill, no Jadeja, no Ashwin, no Shami. Two debutants and Virat Kohli wasn't in the runs to add more worry to the inexperienced batting lineup. And they were coming off a humiliating 0-3 loss to New Zealand at home too.
  • WI vs Bangladesh (Day 3: Stumps - Bangladesh trail by 181 runs -BAN 269-9 in 98 overs)
Bangladesh are nine down. They have just managed to hang in there. This was majorly possible because of the partnership between Jaker and Taijul. They spent vital time and scored crucial runs. Windies pacers bowled their heart out and few of the dismissals was because of raw pace. Bangladesh never had anyone raising their hand and taking up responsibility. They still have a mountain of deficit to scale off. Earlier, Mominul and Litton looked good but fell and that provided a massive opening for the hosts but other lower-order batters showed good resolve. Windies will look for quick runs on day 4 but that would happen only when they pick up that one final wicket.
That's it. There's not much of cricket today except WI vs Bangladesh Test match which can conclude today. If WI wins, we might see our first Jumbo Prediction giving someone 10 runs. There's however lot of Cricket scheduled for tomorrow.

CricZap Cricket Lesson of the Day

How to Win the Match in Cricket?
  • The team which is batting aims to score runs, either to set a total or chase a target set by the opposition. The bowling team tries to limit the runs scored by the batting team and at the same time to get the opposition players out – dismiss them, so that they cannot bat further in the innings.
  • Test cricket consists of two innings per team, played over five days; while ODI and Twenty20 consist of a single innings per team. In Twenty20 and ODI matches, after the completion of both innings, the team that scored the most runs is declared the winner. In Test cricket, the winner is declared after totalling the net runs scored by the two teams in their two batting innings. If both teams have scored the exact number of runs, the match is a tie. If the innings cannot be completed before the allotted time for the match expires, the result is a draw in Test cricket, or no-result (N/R) in an ODI or Twenty20.

Thanks.
What is WI doing out there? They have been bundled out on 152 and now it's Bangladesh batters who require 334 runs to win in almost 150 overs. I sense a great fight back by Bangladesh.
reply
Yupp. Bangladesh have done really well to restrict WI for a low total but I don't think they can chase it.

Wow! You've also started Cricket classes it seems. Keep it up.

Superb Video! Great Shots!

Impressive win for India @Coinsreporter. Do you think that it has been a one off or they will keep on performing this well?
reply
I believe they'll keep on performing. Before NZ whitewashed India at home, India was easily sitting on top of WTC Table. India's recent record in Australia is incredible.
What's WTC?
All test matches played these days get points and top two teams every two years play a final match to decide the Test Champion.
reply
Ok. I can see that they have 3 more tests between them in the next month which will decide who will play that match.
reply
If Australia lose this series, they will be out of the picture. Srilanka, SA, or NZ could be playing the prestigious finale.
reply
They play all tests in Australia so, they may improve their performances in the next matches in front of their crowd.
reply
Sure, we'll see an improved performance from the Aussies but they don't get as much support from home crowd as do India by Indians living in Australia. Indian team gets big crowd support in every corner of the world and they are always louder than the opposition.
reply
Good luck then! I guess that we will be trying to predict this matches in December. It will be fun.
reply
Yes, the rest of the matches are in December so, we'll take on them then.
England women still looked a little shaky at times against South Africa, but hopefully the win helps with getting their confidence back. At least they have the benefit of Kapp and Khaka being rested for the series.
reply
Impressive! You take quite a keen interest in women's cricket.
reply
Yeah, I guess I'm in the smaller group of fans that enjoy both games pretty much equally. My first major cricket exposure other than highlights was the free streams of the Hundred tournament, so I've been a bit of a England fan because of that!
reply
Great! Are you from England? I also love the Hundred for it's improvisation with the overs and other rules
reply
No, actually from the USA. So I've been watching the matches of both countries as time permits! I'll watch whatever interests me as well, I've been watching some of the Abu Dhabi T10 recently.
I can understand some of the negativity about the Hundred, but as you said, it's definitely an interesting take on the game. I may be a bit biased due to it being my introduction to the game though!
reply
I want to recall @grayruby @Undisciplined and @siggy47 to take inspiration from you.
I'm glad you're from America but having an in depth understanding of the gentlemen's game.
Abu Dhabi T10 is quite interesting but it sury isn't the future of Cricket. What they are actually trying by T10 is reducing the game time so as to match it with Soccer's. But, I see a T20 is much more fun than T10 for Cricket Isn't merely a game of aggressive batting.
reply
Yes, T10 tries too hard to be nonstop action. T20 is a lot of fun as I can watch an entire match in an evening, and I also like Test matches because of the bowling focus. In baseball I always prefer a close pitcher's duel over a high scoring game, so I think that carried over to cricket too. I usually can't watch the whole test match though, so I often watch segments of it and then the day's highlights.
