It seems a slower pace how they get runs in this format. Is this normal?
Test Cricket is a test of patience because it has much more time/overs. A batsmen can build his innings without having much pressure of the dot balls he plays.
I won't say it's normal that they score more runs in test cricket but they get more time and overs to make those runs. They play test Cricket with different approach often defensive one. One dayers and T20s (and even T10s now) are played aggressively.

Ok, it's interesting. It's the first time I have followed a test match and I noticed the difference in the runs.

The difference is real and it's actually the oldest format in Cricket.
Normally you'll see batsmen score runs at a slower pace in this format but in recent times many games have seen them score at a fast pace as well.
Now as you know this test has 3 days left so India has all the world's time to first bat as long as they can and then when the conditions get tougher (the pitch will get worse and worse), Indian bowlers will bowl out Australia easily in their 2nd innings. The pitch has a lot of influence in test Cricket. Often the team batting on the last day loses the game for the pitch has worn out by then.

I can see the tactics and how important is winning the toss.

Toss plays a huge role in Cricket.
Let me compare Cricket to Football in this scenario. In Football, both the teams play on the same ground at the same time. Hence, the ground conditions will affect both teams to the same extent and in the same way. However, in Cricket, too many variables come into the picture such as light, pitch condition, dew etc which vary drastically between the team batting first and the team batting second. For eg : most pitches tend to be bouncy and fast at the start and slow down later. In this case, teams which are comfortable with slower pitches would prefer batting second. Hence, the toss would play a huge role in the match, by determining who gets to play in slower track or faster track.

Yep, toss in football I do not think it has a big influence. It's difficult to get to know all those things. I will keep paying attention to see whether I can learn more.
