I mean just looking at the basic numbers the Department of Education has been a complete failure. Going from Top 5 to depending on who you ask 20 - 31st in K-12 education. We have and still do fall behind other countries in Math and Science so I am not sure why we burn the money with no reward.
Edit: Thats not to say there shouldn't be some small Agency that does more or less routine checks on what we are teaching kids to make sure we aren't teaching them stupid stuff. I would rather us increase funding to the National Science Foundation which not only does research but brings in teachers to teach the discoveries than pay for the huge ass Department of Education.
Who is the reason for terrible education? Bad teachers? Bad administrators? Bad parents? Bad students?

We spend all the money in the bureaucracy and so nothing is left for the teachers. Teachers should be making a bunch more then they do.

Good teachers are under paid
Bad teachers are over paid

Well I mean being from Texas taking coaches out of the classroom would be a huge help 😂

If kids are being taught stupid things the parents need to know. Lack of transparency is a big problem.
Education used to be combined with health and welfare or HEW until 1979
Department of energy was also established in 1979

The US Department of Energy? It was formed in ‘77 prior to that it was the Federal Energy Administration. They added the Energy Research and Development Administration (ERDA) which was just the R&D side of Energy

Apologies for the wrong year
It was created under Carter to address the energy crisis in the 1970s
reply
It was there under the name of Federal Energy Administration lol they renamed when they gave it the nuclear stuff from the Atomic Commission that the NRC didn’t take
reply
Federal energy administration was not a cabinet position
Department of Energy is part of the cabinet
reply
Dude it was literally part of the renaming process and giving Congress more sway 😂 that’s the reason for Cabinet level it gives the Senate a check on the President
reply
The FEA was tasked with managing fuel allocation, pricing regulation, and energy data collection and analysis
This is not research

Okay so first off... The Federal Energy Administration Act created the first U.S. agency with the primary focus on energy and mandated it to collect, assemble, evaluate, and analyze energy information... right there that's called R&D its the beginning of the process so you know what is going on. To further build it out and not create a duplicative entity what did they do I said... oh yeah merge it with the Energy Research and Development Admin to create a unified and cost-effective Department. Congress then got then was smart and because of the power in the office made it Cabinet level to check the presidency as 99% of admin position do not need senate conformation
