Also, I still don’t know what assmilking is because there isn’t a thread that defines it, people just keep using the term - is it posting low effort content for sats?
reply
Literally this
There's an old thread on SN but can't find rn.
Basically is milking opportunities without providing any good content whatsoever:
- users with multiple accounts, upvoting their own content (but from another accounts) and create a false "good content" tendency so others will also zap the same posts/comments.
- users that only post meaningless answers just to grab some sats for the reply, but in fact they do not say anything that can add value. Examples: "nice post", "LOL", I appreciate your comment" etc. I see many users here zapping these kind of comments. These zaps also are counted into the daily rewards pool. So they practically milking the SN pool. Yes sometimes you could reply with a meme of just an "ok, thanks" but that doesn't mean it should be rewarded. is just a meaningless answer in the sense of value).
- users that are posting on ALL posts, and in ALL territories, no matter if they know that matter or they have something to add. Sometimes only gibberish text generated by AI bots, again just to grab some sats.
and the list can go on and on with many example.
SN users, especially those who zap frequently MUST be careful who they zap and for what. They should first look at the OP history, what they usually post, comment, behavior, frequency etc. and not at last what they really want to say with their comment. Just because I comment your comment it doesn't mean I would expect you to zap me. No way. But I PAID to comment and ONLY if YOU consider that what I said it gives you more value, than you can zap me few sats.

Thanks for reposting this, and sorry for being impatient - I was digging through on the other post and couldn’t find a thorough definition (and some comments led me away from the answer).
So are you fully against commenting on memes / other content with short answers and just rely on zaps? Coming from other platforms I feel the need to comment to show engagement and appreciation for the post, and I don’t expect zaps (to your point, it’s not valuable content). A zap doesn’t feel as strong of an affirmation of a comment, and feels like a post is bad if it has no comments but has zaps. Maybe it’s just a shift I have to get used to, but I’d imagine as users join they may have that same feeling.

When you should zap a post?
- you want that post to be more visible on SN top, so others can read it faster or don't miss it.
- you received from that post something valuable for you
When you should NOT zap a post?
- is a repeated link, without any explanation
- is a user that you know and/or appreciate and you just zap instinctively all his posts/comments. Wrong, zap only if is really necessary and that post bring YOU value.
- is a shitcoiner. See their bio or posts history. It's quite easy to find them, they always reveal themselves.
- assmilkers trying to fool others for few sats

I'm referring to replies. The zapping logic makes sense

But you also zap people to promote / endorse content, so the incentives should be correct, which is why I’m asking this…
reply
Yes, I zap content, but not like others here...
reply
I didn’t mean “you” like DarthCoin, I meant “you” like “users of SN also zap people” etc
reply
Yes, I know. I just wanted to point out, that there are many ways to "reward" content on SN.
When I say "spend your sats wisely" it doesn't mean you should not zap content at all.
But depending on the situation, context or content, you could just zap 10 sats or 10k sats.
Sometimes I zap as anon, because I do not want to be reflected in my SN user stats how much I zap and more importantly what kind of content I zapped and when. But I can assure you, I zap constantly and ONLY that content that deserve it.
