Thankfully, no. They happen regularly at one of my previous universities, but didn't start until I had moved on. They sound excruciating.
what the hell is a land acknowledgement?
reply
It's a little sermon about how we're all on stolen land, but we're not going to do anything crazy like give it back (that last part isn't usually said).

interesting. never heard of that although i have been out of school/university for a while
i take a neutral point of view to most things like this - if it makes people feel better and it gives them closure... then ok. its not going to matter anyway

The problem is I don't think Native Americans are the ones pushing for land acknowledgments. At least, not the majority of them. This is an invention of liberal academia, much like the term "Latinx" which is proven to be disliked by the average Hispanic person.
"If it makes people feel better and gives them closure"..... but who are we trying to make feel better? Liberal academics?

The whole thing is just a huge waste of time. It does make some liberal academics feel good, but it’s not like they actually feel that bad about it. They mostly just want to make a big show of how virtuous they are.
The actual natives I’ve known don’t care about an acknowledgment. If anything, acknowledging it’s stolen and still not returning it is even worse.
