#766430 reminded me of the only time I was in detention at school because a friend taped me to a chair with tons of tape. Since we had spinning chairs, it was especially fun. I’m not sure what we thought would happen when the teacher came back.
What's your story?

My weak ass lungs got me in detention in 5th/6th grade. Inhalers were kept with the nurse. Had an asthma attack. Needed to go to the nurse. Teacher refused my a my requests to be excused, and eventually I just left because I couldn't breathe.
She didn't like that I guess. I also didn't do any of the homework which probably contributed😂

wtf, some teachers, eh?
A teacher once told a mate to leave the room because he sneezed right after she said "everyone be quiet!" and she took that personally.
Another time, same teacher (she was kind of funny to mess with) asked someone why he didn't wear any shoes even though he also had no pants on.
reply
I guess too many to mention. But the best ever was jumping out of the 2nd floor window into the bushes when I told the teacher that his class was so fucking boring I would rather jump out of the window and he told me to do it because he thought I was bluffing.

lol, nice. Was that the first time you jumped out the window? Did you hurt yourself?
reply
First and last. I can't remember, but I remember it was worth it.
reply
Only a couple of times.
Once was for pantsing a friend in gym class (probably worse because it was a girl).
Another was inexplicably for buying my friend a burrito in the school cafeteria. There really was nothing more to it and I have no idea what the psychotic vice principal was thinking.

Detention wasn't a thing at my school. It's still not in most schools in India. In place of detention we have punishments like a beating, be a cock or be a chair, or a good lecture. We have rules like no kid is to be beaten at schools by teachers but our parents allow it. If you talk to older people in India, they would be all praise for their teacher beating them in school. I guess the teacher student bonding is deep rooted in the culture of India where Guru gets respect more than the God.
I also got so much punishment till my High School.

Back in my senior year of high school during Spanish class I naively used NET SEND to send a message to one of my classmates via Windows command prompt. The only problem was that I failed to specify the user in the command and instead used *. This ended up sending a message to all computers in the school district.
I remember the computer administrator coming into the class saying “Are you aware one of your students is sending messages to the entire school district?” My heart sank.
I ended up getting in-school suspension. Considering this was my first ever “offense” in school, I felt like a badass going out with a bang.

Too many times to count. A couple were more memorable:
  1. Got in a fight in 5th grade. I tripped a kid as we were running in from recess and he started throwing on me. I got him to the ground and in full mount and slapped him a bit. His mom was an administrator at the school so I had to sit in her office for a week while she glared at me.
A slate of proud punishments (not exactly detentions):
  1. I stopped showing up to classes in high school except math and wood shop. When I would show up to other classes I'd arrive considerably late. I got called into the dean's office and talked him out of it by being comically pious as two aides in his office laughed along with him. I bowed as I left his office. A couple years after high school, I met one of the aides at a party who was like "do you remember that?! that was me!" I was so glum during that period I didn't realize she was coming onto me.
  2. I flunked most of my classes sophomore year (save math and CAD) and got kicked off the baseball team.
  3. I was slated to retake sophomore english in my junior year, but my reading comprehension scores were the highest in the class so the teacher convinced the department to let me take two junior english classes instead (which was awesome because I really liked the speech class they put me in).
  4. I didn't graduate from high school, but that summer I entered an advanced math camp on a recommendation later from my math teacher. During the math camp, the Principal of my high school starting calling me threatening to conspire to have me kicked out of math camp if I didn't return to high school to graduate. I told him "I know you get paid based on how many of your students graduate, so if you want me to come back you'll let me finish math camp." (I had a older peer at the math camp that told me how it worked.)
  5. I already wrote about the time I alcohol poisoned myself on my way to high school (a different high school than 1-4).

I don't talk to my sister as much as I'd like and I didn't really grow up with her, but she might've been more naughty than even I was. She got kicked out of high school all together and wound up attending a continuation high school which, at least where we lived, was primarily reserved for kids in gangs and stuff.

Well worth detention it sounds like.

How did you go to college if you didn’t graduate from high school? Through SAT?

I went to community college first which must've exempted me from the requirement. At least, it didn't come up during university admissions.

At that time I was in grade 4, it became a memory for me, me and some of our friends were bathing in the river, coincidentally the river was right behind our school, when break time came, we went behind the fence, we took a shower. on the river bank, at that time the school bell rang to go to class, but we didn't go to class, but we continued to shower, after that we then continued our journey to the city to play again, suddenly one of my friends was seen by our teacher while we walked around the city. The next morning 2 of my friends were summoned and given punishment, they surrounded the field 5 times, while me and several of my friends could only watch our friend being punished, and our fate was very unfortunate, after going around the field, my friend was scolded. given a summons to our parents, because we missed school. and finally my friend told me not to play truant anymore during school hours.
Another memory, I once had a fight, just because a friend from a different class asked me for cigarettes, even though I didn't have cigarettes, he forced me to give him cigarettes, in the end a fight broke out. , until my parents were called to school, to reconcile us, I still remember that story to this day, and now we are friends, because we have our own busy lives.

Ohh, you must have a lot of stories why someone got detention!
Btw, isn't detention also detention for the teacher?
reply
So sometimes I get so worked up with my students that I decide to teach them a lesson by punishing myself. I will probably read a book while they are writing apology/reflection notes
reply
maybe have them write good posts on SN with 100% forward to you next time
