ok, say we went parabolic, in fiat terms, what would you guys do next?
For me, I wouldn't actually change that much, since I don't have any immediate or pressing financial needs.
I would like to take my family to Nintendo world though and maybe i'd treat myself to something like a ps5 maybe.
What would change the most would be my mental state, like i would acquire a feeling of being 'ok' financially if I lose a client or if something bad happens work-wise (when you freelance, something always happens!). I would just enjoy the feeling that I have an incredible backup.
How about you?
I would probably put more of my energy into my bitcoin activities and less into the fiat job. We would also probably get more serious about moving.
reply
what kind of btc activities, like accepting it as payment for services and things like that?
reply
More serious writing at SN, more activity on nostr, more time invested in the podcast, etc. I don't have any skills that would lend themselves to accepting bitcoin in payment for services.
reply
good call, i post a bit on nostr but it feels like talking into the void so i spend more time here instead

What's your podcast?
reply
I started the Stacker Sports Pod with @grayruby. We've only been doing it for a month.
reply
Don't forget your forthcoming book.
reply
I've been so productive that I hadn't even started that book when this post was made.
reply
Well you have a cover. That’s gotta be 80% or the work right there.
There are a lot of serious answers to the same question here as well.
reply
To tell you the truth, l still wouldnt do anything special. I would just have to get used to people zapping only one sat for comments they like. Just imagine how much harder stacking will be!
reply
price goes higher, zaps get lower lol
reply
Yes, that is true. Have people started making the adjustment yet? @Undisciplined what are your thoughts?
reply
The opposite has been true so far. When BTC was exchanging for $25k, stackers were only zapping one sat.
I don't think zapping is strongly correlated to the fiat exchange rate, because the incentives come from the reward system.
reply

Everybody gets richer here at the same time the price goes up. Maybe that's also related? I think that's called the Wealth effect.
reply
Richer in fiat? Or bitcoin?

I’m not going to discuss this with you again
reply
Interesting thought process. I wasnt here when it first started so l didnt see how everything went. I can see the CCs staying higher, but maybe not the sat zaps? Who knows until we try it.
reply
As long as k00b continues dumping 100k into the rewards pool every day, then people will keep zapping like they do today. If they successfully find advertisers, then the rewards pool will be bigger and people will zap even more.
reply
Also, as the site grows the rewards will grow. In the future, k00b wont have to put in the 100k.
reply
k00b doing this is the only subsidy i approve of lol
I'll probably invest 10% of my stack in a good house which is a priority for me because I was born in a rented apartment and still we're loving on rent.
Another thing that I'd do is probably buy a car with 10%.
Rest will be as usual.
reply
Just out of curiosity, what kind of car and transmission type? As a beginner driver who got his driving license this year I must say I am highly biased towards manual transmissions and highly enjoy using the engine brake in mountain roads.
reply
I also like manual. I'll be buying a Toyota Hilux most probably.
reply
Oh, a big one, nice car!
reply
I'd be posting more and more against the morons who called Bitcoin is noting but a bubble.

The things in life that matter aren't gated by large amounts of money.
reply
This is true. All the people that believe bitcoiners are just going to cash out when the price is right are wrong.
reply
nothing will change about my current trajectory. i will keep learning how to eliminate slave-think from people's minds, double down on teaching, as well as helping out the fellow people.
reply
Do you want to teach in a small community? A place where you can have a voice and make a difference?I know you have great ideas..

stacker.news reportedly has only about 1,100 active members. i really like how it incentivizes consistency (read and post daily) and integrity of character. it's a very good think-tank.
for now i strive to lead by example:
  • reduce worldly needs
  • know the law
  • study bitcoin
  • provide value without compromising on quality
  • do not let ephemeral negative emotions interfere with proper thought & action
ultimately i want to educate future educators, through some combination of seminars, physical and mental challenges, and mind-opening journeys. it's really cool to hear someone say "i had no idea i could do this, but you convinced me that i can."

Perfect. Let's do it!

I would honestly probably... order a large cappuccino (i love cappuccino) and then go back to work.
I am fortunate in that I generally like what I do and Stacker News gives me a really great outlet in which to communicate and discuss with other Stackers.
So... that's it.

Nothing much, really.
Keep on grinding, enjoying the show etc.
Maybe think seriously about buying a house or opening a restaurant or yoga studio or whatever
reply
No telling. Not going to kid myself and pretend to know how I'll handle the mental aspect. Hopefully I just keep it pushing. I'd consider time locking a large percentage for a year.
And would probably upgrade my security model, and move to a safer jurisdiction.......sell my condo.....

I would pinch myself and I think the reality wouldn't settle in for a while. It would probably take until people write me about it. I don't really know what I would do once reality settled in except worry about my physical safety (why did BTC go to a million over night?) and to hope I will not become a huge asshole. I'd probably also go through my backups and how to restore from them. I basically have very similar views as #202352.
However, it's hard to say how I would really react since I have never been in this situation before of suddenly sitting on a lot of money.

I'd make it to El Salvador for that conference in time I guess, long flight but flying business is great most of the time haha!

I know there are many different realities, reading that many of them would perhaps only satisfy a whim or taste.
In my case, it scares me that we still cannot reach those prices, you need more SATS.
My goals are simple but complicated.
  1. Have the amount of SATS necessary to buy my first house, that is, for my wife and daughters and that it be in a quiet town in the country where I was born and raised.
  2. Return to the country where I was born and raised to be close to my family, create a Bitcoin community and school to educate mainly my wife's family and mine.

I will spend the rest of my life zapping posts here at SN. If I can spend 24 hours reading and writing you bet I will.

I would accelerate my switch from a general software engineering job to a job focused on image processing or signal processing and would send my resume to the team behind OpenCV.

I doubt I will change much. Bitcoin gives me the confidence to live my values-driven life. Having it rise in value doesn’t shift my values

I’d probably crack a smile and perhaps have a beer instead of coffee for breakfast but then go back to normal life. Definitely need to sleep on things and not let emotions drive financial decisions.
reply
I would keep buying. It will get more expensive. I always regret not being able to buy everything I want. That's why it bothers me so much how some, many, spend their money on shit coins.
reply
Nothing would change honestly: I still would mess around with the same car, probably would look for some better quality clothes since nowadays fast fashion is trash. Nothing else other than more self confidence in my daily fiat job

I’d prob pay off my mortgage so my annual costs were lower. I’d then not do much for a few years to make sure we didn’t get a big correction.
I might also cash out a bit and buy VTI or whatever to live on it (or have as a back up) for a year or two during the bear market.
I’d probably sell off my business and write some fiction or code some games like I’ve wanted to. Maybe start a side hustle or two that my kids could do when they got older.
