  • First round picks are now open for the NBA Emirates Cup Survivor Pool. We talk through our pick strategy and how challenging this first slate looks.

Hockey Talk

I attempt to explain what hockey is for our international listeners and @grayruby explains what it really is. Then we talk about Ovechkin chasing the Great One's career scoring record and how it fits in with some other remarkable career records in other sports.

NFL

NBA Power Rankings

We hash out some disagreements in our NBA Power Rankings and why we're both wrong to think the Pacers are good. Shoutout to the Cavs for continuing to roll.

Thanks for raising very legitimate questions about Cricket matches in the POD. I hail everyone have a look about the description I did for all the series and pool here. #756519
However I now feel it's not complete for everyone.
Let me clarify.
When there's no multination world tournament (like the one we had in June - ICC World Twenty20 in USA), various National teams in Cricket play each other generally in bilateral series. The series can range from 1 to 7 matches.
The games that are included in the Cricket Pool are all bilateral series till now. You see the same teams again and again because they're playing each other mote than 1 match for the series.
I provide links with the match in the pool post. The purpose of providing link is not limited to showing you the result or scorecard. Every detail related to the match or series or teams is given there.
Right now we're having 4 major bilateral series around the globe.
  • South Africa is hosting India for a four match T20 series.
  • Newzealand is in a tour to Sri Lanka for a two match T20 series (Completed today) and a 3 match One day International (50 over match) series.
  • West Indies is hosting England for 3 match series of ODIs (Already completed) and a five match series of T20s.
  • Pakistan is touring Australia for 3 ODIs and 3 T20s.
  • Afghanistan is hosting Bangladesh in UAE for 3 ODIs.
You can always check for schedule of all Cricket happening around the globe by clicking https://www.espncricinfo.com/live-cricket-score
You just have know how to navigate on ESPNcricinfo. For schedule click on "matches". You'll find 'Live', 'Upcoming' and 'Recent' tab there.
With every match, you see a 'Tour' link. When you click there, you'll see the details about the tour or the series.
If there's still any confusion, you can always ask me. It's my bad that I thought it to be a very normal thing.
Thanks for your support.

Well done! Cricinfo site alone is sufficient to know about Cricket. There's everything in there. However I th8nk there's a need to publish ghe basics of Cricket for better inderstanding of the game.
reply
I'll be making how to Cricket posts. Thank you so much.
reply
Thanks for clarifying all these details. One thing that I wonder is if these teams are playing friendly matches or they are within a tournament towards qualifying or winning a cup.
reply
These aren't called friendly matches for they are included in ICC's roaster for World rankings which decide for a prize money on April 1 every year for the top team in a format. The money that the top team gets is in millions.
reply
Thanks for sharing it. I can see the rankings and reasoning behind it. Very surprised of seeing a Spanish team at the T20I rankings, even though it is 29th. I have never heard of a Spanish team in cricket!
reply
Spain in ven has its own national Cricket league. Spain's team has lot of Muslim players as their population is having more immigrants from Cricket playing nation, cricket is now a popular gam.
reply
That makes sense. I have checked and most of them are in the Cataluña area and close to coastal areas where a lot of tourist live. We may end up becoming a strong side 🤣
reply
Yes. All the best. I want to visit your place. That's on top of my list.
Yes, I listened they gave it a name Cataluña Cricket League for T10 format. It's quite famous. We also get live coverage of those games.
reply
So obvious SA would win 😉
reply
You're overconfident and thinking yourself the expert on Cricket.
South Africa is the home team and home teams are losing. I must declare it now - India will win rest of the two matches to clinch the Ind-SA T20 series by 3-1. It was just a fluke today. Even in today's game SA have almost lost it when the spinners were bowling.
reply
Sounds like you are the one who is overconfident.
YOU HAVE DECLARED IT.
reply
Can you talk to the Australian team about giving up a home soil series like that
reply
If you'll pass a message to Indian team giving away the home test series to Newzealand 3-0, I'll definitely pass yours to Australian team.
I think we're in a season where home teams are losing. India is coming to Australia very soon. Would be better if Australia keeps on doing the same.
reply
No no we will turn the tide against India we can’t let your team win here like you can’t let Aus win there
reply
Well we'll see. India might have lost against NZ at home but the last two times India visited Australia, India have defeated them in their backyard. This time will be no different.
reply
Very helpful. Thanks for clarifying.
reply
I'm glad it's helpful. I'm also thinking about making some general FAQ post related to Cricket to ensure everyone gets to know about Cricket's general rules and playing norms.

I'm listening. Good job this time.
reply
Thanks, Is there anything you want us to talk about on future episodes.
reply
Congrats for your numbers! I think you both do a great job. Thanks for the mention. I have already listened to half of it and will continue tomorrow morning. You mentioned that hockey is similar to soccer though I am not really sure. Perhaps quite closer to roller (or rink) hockey. Spain, Italy, Argentina and Portugal are the top teams. I share a small video showing what it is.
reply
Correct, hockey is more similar to hockey than it is to soccer.
reply
Haha. I think it is also similar to Field Hockey.
reply
Except for the skirts.

49ers ST putting on a clinic today. 2 missed FGs and a fumbled punt return that led to a TD for Buccs. Wow.
reply
3 missed FG.
49ers should be winning this game by 20 but instead they are ahead by 3 and the Buccs have the ball with a chance to tie or win.
Really unbelievable
reply
That was a very lucky win.
reply
Yes. They should have lost that game. At times they look the old 49ers but then they shoot themselves in the foot. I don’t get it.
Bears, Vikings and Chiefs losing?? And 49ers winning!!
reply
For now. Buccs have the ball.
reply
congrats for the win, after missing the previous FG you got the right one at the end.
🤣

I'll post a guide of Cricket The Book of Wisden for you guys to make sure you understand. Cricket is a lot easier to understand. It's just I'm watching Baseball highlights to understand it. I think you should also devote 5 to 10 minutes to cricket highlights. It's the best way to learn about the game faster.
reply
It's fun being completely clueless about what we're doing, though.
reply
I'm adamant to destroy your fun then. I'll make you learn Cricket.

Nice recap. Did you really just put hashtag blessed?
Connecting with our gen Z audience. Clever.
Haha.

What's your release schedule? I finally subscribed on Fountain and I haven't gotten any new episodes.
reply
I, uhh, just had a baby? xD
I'm trying to let inspiration strike for each episode. It's basically whatever I would want to say in a longform ~alter_native @DesertDave post, then I'll record a podcast for it.
Anything you'd like to hear my hot take on?
reply
I'm pretty sure your wife is the one who just had a baby and I thought you were doing your SN business while pretending to poop.
I agree, though, that you should let inspiration strike.
reply
Have to handle how to edit out that flush in the background when recording the podcast.
