Ultra-processed foods are linked to accelerated biological aging, as confirmed in a study analyzing over 22,000 people. Researchers found that these foods, high in additives and preservatives, speed up the body’s internal aging clock, independently of nutritional quality. These findings underscore the potential need for dietary guidelines that also consider food processing levels and encourage whole food consumption to promote long-term health.
I wonder how they managed to find enough people who don't consume ultra-processed food. It's just so hard to avoid...
Interesting study. Maybe it wakes some people up who don´t know intuitively that the crap they are eating does no good. Highly processed food not only harms the body, it also is poison for the mind. People have to be aware that they are not only feeding themselves, but also their gut microbiome. Via the gut-brain-axis bacterial metabolites influence cognitive performance and mental well-being.

gut-brain-axis
Very happy to see more and more people aware of the importance of the gut. I've highlighted it several times here on SN (e.g. #679198).

They frequently use 7th day adventists as the non-processed (and vegetarian) arm in a lot of studies that I've seen.

That's an interesting piece of trivia. Never heard that one. Makes sense though.
When I was looking into peer-reviewed studies backing the carnivore diet, a similar difficulty exists in finding proper samples. Turns out eskimos are often used as reference for communities that only consume meat and no vegetables.

Ever wonder why the wealthy grow their own food? Maybe they knew this whole time?

Likely.

Right, they must have got the memo. All us poorer folk missed it.

These "foods" contain a lot of sodium, affecting blood pressure and causing many heart problems. I believe that a busy life, and obviously the taste, encourages the intake of these types of foods, as they are very quick and easy to acquire. But even natural foods are suffering, due to their preservation using pesticides
reply
True. Many of the recent scandals of chemicals causing cancer, Parkinson, Alzheimer, etc have been linked to pesticides. This is one of the reasons I believe some regulation is necessary. I can't trust the free market to outlaw the very profitable use of pesticides for farming companies.
reply
I completely agree! It will be an uphill struggle to achieve some convincing regulation, because of the immense lobby that these landowners have within the state.
