Once in a while, I visit Nostrudel or Primal, to see what @fiatjaf, @lynaldencontact, @calle, etc have to say. But I must admit, this is far from being a daily or even weekly habit. So I haven't really followed what has been going on there.
I wonder how things are going in regards to the following points:
  • number of clients, is it increasing or decreasing?
  • are most clients social-media type apps? Or are there clients that do some very different things? If so, what are they doing?
  • outside of the internal Nostr ecosystem, do you see more or less apps/websites/software implementing nostr features (identification, NWC, etc)?
  • do you see non-bitcoin people using it?
  • are there more or less devs active in the Nostr community over time?
  • is it truly a decentralizing force for good? Or do people end up falling back on centralized implementations for efficiency/speed/convenience reasons?
  • are you confident about Nostr's future? Or will it remain niche?
  • how is Nostr comparing to the other solutions to censorship? In terms of growth/tech/adoption/...?
  • is funding increasing? Do we see for-profit entities entering the field?
  • are you bullish on Nostr? Will we see a future where the likes of X, etc get defeated? Or will it always be a niche thing?
  • ...
These are genuine questions. I have no opinion as I really haven't followed it closely. I'm sure there must be write-ups on these questions somewhere, so feel free to point me to them.
I see new nostr apps every week Flotilla Snapnostr AnimalSunset Chachi
Mostly centered around social features
Onboarding new users remains a hurdle.
Seems sufficiently decentralized with the numbers we have now. Only around 10k daily active users last I checked, probably 5 major twitter clones, 4 telegram competitors, marketplace NIP working in cypher.space amethyst and shopstr, bunch of relays, spin up your own relay etc.
Imo it would be pretty funny if nostr remained niche. The user experience between 20 interchangeable and interconnected daily drivers, will be nice. Controlling your algorithm, social graph, and online identity is cool. Would be surprised if people didn't find that stuff attractive.
Bullish on nostr Shout-out to the Nostr Only freaks.

Onboarding new users remains a hurdle.
What’s the biggest hurdle? No interest?
reply
Mainly UI/UX
  • What are Relays
  • What are zaps
  • Hard getting followers
  • Feed doesn't show much if you only follow 250 freaks
  • A lot of slow and laggy beta clients

The most recent interesting development, that I'm aware of, was Fountain becoming a nostr client.
I check in on nostr regularly through Primal, but to me it's not nearly as interesting as Stacker News.

I didn't know that about fountain.. that's awesome. Moving along nicely.

number of clients, is it increasing or decreasing?
Seems stagnant since noStrudel came on the scene.
are most clients social-media type apps? Or are there clients that do some very different things? If so, what are they doing?
Twitter is still key use case
outside of the internal Nostr ecosystem, do you see more or less apps/websites/software implementing nostr features (identification, NWC, etc)?
Fountain just added, wavlake, and SN
do you see non-bitcoin people using it?
Some but not much
are there more or less devs active in the Nostr community over time?
Can't tell, maybe some more but not noticeable
is it truly a decentralizing force for good? Or do people end up falling back on centralized implementations for efficiency/speed/convenience reasons?
It seems to be decentralized enough relaywise but hasn't been challenged except by spam and bots.
are you confident about Nostr's future? Or will it remain niche?
More confident about some parts like public key distribution and open network model but still unclear why most people would adopt it.
how is Nostr comparing to the other solutions to censorship? In terms of growth/tech/adoption/...?
is funding increasing? Do we see for-profit entities entering the field?
Not much commerce. It seems devs have decent funding. Not much coverage in tech.
are you bullish on Nostr? Will we see a future where the likes of X, etc get defeated? Or will it always be a niche thing?
I think it'll be niche but it can serve an essential role as an outlet valve and venue for exit. Comes in most handy when accounts and sites are taken down.

I'm not sure how scalable it will be.

Slow and steady is perfect. I am very bullish on nostr.

I think its getting better. I don't know if it will be as big as many predict but I'm enjoying using it. Its like a little bitcoin bubble for sharing things or venting about clown world.

Rumor is there's a nip68x69 server rendered client in the works that should address the suck that afflicts typical clients and NWC
It's going to centralize a bit like email did, but without the baggage... sounds bad at first until you consider email is ubiquitous and still pretty decentralized

Oh well nip69.dev ain't going anywhere

Email is not that decentralized. Most people who self host email servers complain that google clients don't receive their mails.
It's Arizona, right? 🤔

Will be good I think when there is more variety on it and less people asking for free bitcoin zaps
