Political disinformation was positively associated with respiratory infection incidence. Government-sponsored disinformation was positively associated with the incidence of Covid-19. Internet censorship led to underreporting of the incidence of respiratory infections. Governments must stop sponsoring disinformation to avoid blame or gain a political advantage.
