The most terrifying thing is to accept oneself completely.
–Carl Jung
The terrifying thing is getting to know yourself. We often hide from ourselves and project what we don’t like onto others. There are so many barriers to self-understanding, especially denial, shame and guilt. How do we accept ourselves completely because it is what we dislike, or even hate, in others, that we have to be willing to face in ourselves? It may take a painful tragedy, a crisis, the pain of loss to break down the denial and overcome the shame and guilt so the healing process can begin. And that involves self-forgiveness and self-nurturing, often ongoing! And learning to reach out to others for emotional support, learning to share your struggles, to listen to others and to let go of your judgement toward others.
