My son did some Halloween craft last week. It's a flat wooden jack'o'lantern. He put a little bit of paint, glued a few light things on and that was about it.
The question I have is this: When I hang it up on two screws in the fence, the wind will blow it around so that the painted side is facing the fence. If I change the side of the string, the same thing happens. The wind will blow it around so that the painted side is facing the fence.
Any idea why this is happening? The only explanation that I can come up with is that its like the moon as the painted side might be slightly heavier. But that's just a guess!

I think the problem is the way it is attached, using that string gives room for it to turn, since it is not fixed to the wall, plus adding the difference in weight on the side that has paint and the side that does not.
I think you should remove the string, and simply use the small hole that is in the pumpkin 🎃 to put a nail there and fix it so that it is not at the mercy of the wind and can always look forward to see the art 🎨 that the little one has created... also understanding the mind of the little one and trying to see it as my daughter would see it, she would not stop asking why the pumpkin doll only looks towards the wall. 🤭🤭

It’s the location of the hole in the pumpkin stork. Could you add a string and nail at the bottom as well to hold it tighter to that side .
Or twist the string up and have it on good side . As if you look you hang it and string is straight then it settles with string twisted on the nail
The slight weight difference might be the cause. What came to my mind is a difference in drag due to the paint.
