This quote is very true. We can do good in the world but it becomes something different at scale and unless we are recreating ourselves, ie. influencing others to do what we do it doesn't really scale. Not in the way many other things scale.
I think this is a fundamental flaw in socialism. Instead of seeking to socialize everything I believe we should set an example of caring and giving. When it becomes systematized not only does it become fraught with structural failures it loses its deep connection and human touch.
