Have you ever heard about the Tham Luang cave rescue?
In June and July 2018, Twelve members of a Thai junior association football team (soccer in the US), aged 11 to 16, and their 25-year-old assistant coach became trapped in a cave in northern Thailand. Shortly after they entered, heavy rainfall began and partially flooded the cave system, blocking their way out and trapping them deep within the cave system.
Several cave divers decided to venture miles into an underwater cave to attempt to rescue each one of the members by putting them under basic anesthesia and dragging them out completely underwater.
After watching this documentary from National Geographic, I can say with confidence that the divers who went into that cave have to be some of the most extremely fringe minds in the world. To dive those caves in good conditions would be incredibly difficult for most but that they did it in the most intense conditions AND with another human under basic anesthesia.
That's absolutely mental.
Here's the trailer for the documentary
They also made a dramatization about this but I've never actually seen it. It's on my list but will take some time for me to find the time to actually watch it. It looks pretty good.
If you want to hear the story of one of the most remarkable stories of our lifetime, I would recommend that you give this a watch. It will blow your mind.

it's pretty good, i love accounts of superman performance! having done regular scuba diving, that was a hardcore mission.

It was a combination between a suicide mission and an accidental homicide mission.
Nothing but respect for these divers.

I watched the movie version! I still remember how touched I was when Thai villagers gave up their entire year’s worth of harvest because the rescuers needed to flood the rice paddies. Knowing how financially strapped Thai society can be, I wonder how difficult it must have been for them to make this decision.
Did you know that the captain of this football team subsequently took his own life? And the actor playing the coach passed on suddenly? It’s two untimely deaths - makes me shudder n wonder if the cave is cursed
