No doubt the Chinese are hesitant to take on the role- it comes with a heavy burden as US, British and predecessors have found. But unfortunately when you are the dominant productive economy on the planet there are some unavoidable consequences and imperatives - and China knows they cannot be easily escaped. They might surely bring a different culture and rationale to the western individualism that seems to have reached its logical conclusion.
