I try to relay this to people all the time, when creators release content freely more people can enjoy it than otherwise. People tend to get caught up in some emotional attachment to the contemporary business model they miss out on the opportunity to for a more human alternative. That's the benefit to the creators, of course. Not losing out on streams of income, but retaining custody of their soul. Creative people will find a way to earn money.
