Why isn't there a protocol that is p2p that can automatically pool participants into groups the same way mining pools do? Unfortunately i can see some incentives currently for everybody to join large mining pools.

I've wondered the same thing. If it is feasible, it would be neat for someone to make a SN mining pool.
