I've been in tech since I got started with things like BASIC in the early to mid eighties, I've seen things get adopted since before the internet, and of course most of it has been around online tech.
Bitcoin as seen by a photographer
The field in the general media & content field where I'm a real, seasoned expert is photography. I spent my first tens of thousands of hours learning analog photography, later I worked full time on and off, ran a shared studio space for 6 years, and also started an agency.
So this is what I wonder about as a photographer when it comes to the Bitcoin space, the way a full time photographer will see it when they want to get into the field to earn.
Ordinals? Or something else?
Again, this is how a photographer will see it! It is possible to inscribe ordinals for a cost, and although the resolution might be low the archival characteristics are simply stellar!
I've seen the field reluctantly leave analog print as the medium to somehow embrace archival level print from files, there was a lot of debate and undoubtedly the archival value dropped, at least for a while.
So, once photographers get the strength of Bitcoin they will want to do ordinals! But can they sell them to the Bitcoin market? Probably not!
What about other solutions? Are there any? If Arweave will survive long term might be under debate, but a photographer looking into options will totally want to use that, but will it be accepted?
I'm not even going into NFTs, by now a serious photographer won't use that for anything else than maybe low to mid level priority sales.
Physical or virtual?
I've had feedback from a few in the space indicating that physical prints will be welcome, especially if they have proven, archival qualities. There is a very good match here when it comes to time preference and proof of work.
What would the potential for this be in the Bitcoin space? The way I see it a photographer will still have to build up sales with "tripwire" products where you can get something online, before you might step up to buy that print.
So maybe some solution where an ordinal or something similar is coupled with a print? Anyone got any ideas or examples?
Business opportunities
This might not be a business opportunity that scales into something huge, but for the first mover there is a real opportunity here. Set up a gallery type app, coupled with print & ship, ideally both analog and digital process!
Run all of that on sats & things will start to move, since I really need this myself as a service I'd be happy t to help anyone who is serious getting started :-)
