We all have a dream location in mind. If you could pack up and live anywhere in the world, where would you go? What makes this place special for you? Is it about the people, Bitcoin adoption, the culture, or the opportunities it offers?
I’ve always dreamed of living in Kyoto, Japan. There’s something about the balance between old-world traditions and modern life that fascinates me. (@cryotosensei have you been there?) The city has ancient garden beside hi-tech areas. I would also like to see the cherry blossoms and try some new foods.
There is not a perfect place.
A place could be perfect for a certain stage of your life, the place would be different if you are a student or a parent.
For the stage I'm right now, I would choose as a temporary perfect destination:
  • Azores or Madeira Island. ( Good weather, great food, in between America and Europe)
  • Canary islands. (Amazing weather, great place for water sports, friendly people)
  • Oporto.( Great city, no too big)

I'm pretty happy where I am, but lots of places beckon at me -- from El Salvador and Argentina, to Costa Rica where I've spent a lot of time, and to remote places like Svalbard and Alaska.
I would do NZ again, once my 20-year Covid moratorium runs out.
Here's the piece I wrote earlier this year thinking about places to go/live: https://aier.org/article/foot-voting-reconsidered-how-should-i-think-about-leaving/

I have only visited once but it would be the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica. Its on the West Coast (Pacific Island side) and is largely untouched. I spent 6 weeks there and while it has its drawbacks for sure with things like Starlink becoming so big I feel like the gaps and issues I had there would go away!
Get away from society for a while. Rest and relax... It checks all the boxes lol

agreed, Costa Rica is fab. I spent a few months in Montezuma and Santa Tere -- similar vibe to further down the coast, but not as remote -- and absolutely loved it.

Working in a chaotic environment I feel eventually I am going to just pack up and move to either Alaska (I have been there before as well and it was stunning) or Costa Rica (the Pacific side because it has fewer tourists)!

The point is we can live anywhere we want until its border is closed, however we live where we do because we can afford it and we like these places, innit?
