This piece, written 21 years ago (Yurick's dead now) seems like the experience a lot of authors (especially from the Boomer era) have with adaptations of their works. Yurick does seem to recognize that the book couldn't be filmed as written, but there's a sense of amazement that any movie could be as interesting as a book. The movie is almost certainly the reason Yurick's name will live on for way longer than it would have otherwise, even if Walter Hill is (understandably) the creator most associated with it.
