And what do you call someone who identifies as a "libertarian" but who has spent his entire career actively collaborating with governments, militaries and intelligence agencies in an effort to enrich himself and to grow the power of the state? Again, whatever you call that person, it's not "libertarian."

You call them an establishment libertarian. Not new.
Or a Reason Mag libertarian.
Or a beltway libertarian.
Libertarian is a big tent and not all are anarchists.
It makes one wonder. What is the difference between an anarchist and a libertarian? About 4 months.

Trees are known by their fruits, a rotten tree cannot bear good fruit. That a person claims to be something or someone that they are not is nothing new, so it should not be surprising that this happens. Likewise, there will be those who claim to be Bitcoiners and behave like Shitcoiners. The healthiest thing, I have learned the hard way at times, is to doubt, always doubt. Observe and then act, and even after having doubted and waited, continue to doubt.
A libertarian, the concepts are different and even attempts are made to place oneself in political currents of the Left or Right.
"Libertarians advocate the expansion of individual autonomy and political freedom, emphasizing the principles of equality before the law and the protection of civil rights, including the rights to freedom of association, freedom of expression, freedom of thought and freedom of choice." With this concept as a basis, anyone who tries to curtail the freedom of another is no longer a libertarian.

I've heard Whitney Webb also ask these questions.

I can't shake the Webb being a grifter vibe. Also, she is too much of a doomer for me.

I have thought both about her too. Still, there are too many questions with Thiel

100%. Don't mistake what I'm saying. Webb's content is almost always factually right from what I've seen. I say the same for Alex Jones... though he exaggerates and he's more of a showman.
I've always thought of Thiel as a business guy who calls himself libertarian. Its pretty meaningless to me. Pretty obvious he and the other "Paypal Mafia" guys have decided Trump is their chance move the government towards more privatization. Could end up being better than the opposition (Harris). Only time will tell. I don't trust these dudes.
Reality is that the state exists and has massive control over the economy and there is a battle for its control. I find it interesting. I don't consider Thiel and enemy but nor do I consider him an fellow traveler. I'm sympathetic to the folks that say at least these guys don't hate people that want to be left alone. I cannot say that of the modern left. They want to control every aspect of your lives.
I dunno. I'm still thinking this through but mostly out of curiosity about what will happen.

You might want to call him a CIA agent or an agent for another one of those famous three-letter agencies comprising the Deep State. I didn’t see it specifically, but he may have been fronting for DARPA or N’Q-Tel (or however they write it). IMO, a lot of these billionaires in Silicon Valley were probably fronting for government agencies because government was restricted from doing those things. However, whatever stops the government?
