Today @DEADBEEF, yes even @DEADBEEF said he was able to connect a CoinOS.io wallet to Stacker news via @supratic guide but he forgot to mention the ONE step needed that's not listed in the guide.
For me, it didn't say
Profile Details > With an arrow to expand.
But I figured it out! I just had to click on my name, and then my lightning address appeared to click on! In his guide, he has the profile page url circled, but that's not what you want, it's the lightning address. And it looks like the presentation has updated so that's right at the top, which is great!
And then this is a nit pick, but his screenshot says set minimum to 10% withdrawal fee, but the text says 1%, so I did 1% (But I wonder what is best? I don't want failed transactions!). Also, the first time you set this up, instead of it saying "save" it says "attach"
Also, did you see that under my profile it doesn't display my NOSTR Wallet Connect (NWC) code? Here is the missing step:
You have to click this settings gear icon.
Scary! Clearly this is the thing to keep private, not like your Nostr pub key. It's important to distinguish between what needs to be kept private, and what must be shared publicly.
In @supratic guide it says
et voilá! Your sats are now out of SN node!
But I think it should say
THIS IS THE POINT OF NO RETURN STEP!
So I would definitely add this as a disclaimer!
As soon as you hit that yellow "attach" button to receive, I saw this on my CoinOS wallet:
And my SN wallet balance in the top right showed 0!
So be triple sure you know your password to your CoinOS wallet! Logout and log back in. Like @supratic says it's a gift and a curse that there's no email or kyc needed, but if you lose your password you lose your sats. Be triple sure you got it memorized because otherwise you just lost your ENTIRE SN BALANCE.
And then why CoinOS is best for iPhone is because you can launch it in a web browser, but of course the "Add to Homescreen" doesn't do anything useful (doesn't save a login) so don't bother.
THANK YOU to @supratic for your guide and @DEADBEEF for your post! Got me to finally drain my SN balance to 0 today! xD
Thanks for creating the updated version, I'll make sure to pin it on the guide #694593

Thank you for making the original! In general, it's exciting that @adam_coinos_io is making updates this quickly to the UI as it is!

I've had mine set at a max 1% fee and have yet to have a failed transaction. 1% is actually a very generous fee on LN.
reply
ok yea so that wouldn't be the reason then that zapping fails on the mobile site version of SN, but not the desktop version.

I ran into that issue as well. In my case, attaching the external wallets again on mobile resolved the issue.

OMG YOU WERE RIGHT!!
WHAT WIZARDRY IS THIS?!

Let me tell you that on Android you can do the same, you use the "add to homescreen" or "install application" option and it works perfectly. You can come and go without any problem, the session remains open, and when you open it, it asks for the PIN code. I use it in the browser and it works very well.

Thanks @realBitcoinDog NWC was posted under profile detail expand when I set it up for the grayruby account but I just tried to do it for the nflsurvivorpool account and noticed it was no longer there. Your guide was very helpful in finding it.

It seems to me coinos is a better wallet with lower fees than alby.
reply
I haven’t seen any fees. You’re welcome!
Any favorite parts of this post?

The explanation of the entire process was excellent and the inclusion of how to get the missing step done by clicking the gear key. I was previously vexed by how to set this up not being highly confident technically but having it all explained and the solution to the problems you encountered being included made it possible for me to do. I hope this post will be accessible to others who face the same problem getting their LN wallet connected. I too have not yet seen any fees for small transactions but on larger ones the fees on coinos seem to me to be lower than the alby fees. Coinos and Alby are the only wallets I can use as i am only interested in using Linux OS and most other wallets don't seem to support linux/browser based use.

That’s good! It’s like this is FOSS it should at least work on Linux!!

Thank you!

If you set the desired balance to something like 1000, it'll leave enough in your SN wallet to create new posts, etc...
reply
Well it should auto spend from my CoinOS wallet right?

Awesome! Glad you were successful!

You sir are officially an inspiration! Thank you for the p2p sats!
reply
Glad my post helped. Hopefully it inspires others as well.
I’m very happy with Coinos but there are 3 things I wish they would add:
  • Push notification support (like SN)
  • Dark Mode
  • Better PWA

Well and my latest issue again is I’m trying to zap this comment 10 sats or 11 sats now from my iPhone but it keeps failing it keeps wanting me to pay an invoice
reply
Strange. Maybe try detaching your NWC info and then re-enter it?
reply
so here on desktop I'm able to zap no issue!
reply
I think you have to enter your NWC info in each browser.

OMG YOU WERE RIGHT!!
WHAT WIZARDRY IS THIS?!
LET IT BE KNOWN YOU MUST PASTE YOUR NWC SEND CODE ON MOBILE AS WELL AS DESKTOP!!

Maybe I spoke too soon? I got this error right away as soon as I hit "post" and had to pay w/ my primal wallet. Will it let me make this reply? haha!
reply
ok it showed a "pending" lag for a little bit, and then the reply worked! few!

Looks like my 1 sat payments for replies to my own posts are working, and someone zapped me 10 sats for my post, of which i kept 7 of them due to the 30% sybil fee! nice.
