A levy would keep flights cheap for occasional flyers while making multiple flights in a year much more expensive.
[...]
For the first and second flights taken in a year, a €50 surcharge would be applied to medium-haul and €100 to long-haul, business and first-class flights.
For the third and fourth flights, a €50 levy would be added to every ticket plus an additional €50 surcharge for medium-haul and €100 for longer distances and comfort classes.
For fifth and sixth flights, the levy would rise to €100 per flight, plus the additional surcharges. For seventh and eighth flights the levy would be €200, rising to €400 for every flight thereafter.
Would you reduce your flying habits if it becomes more expensive? As it is targeted at the rich, I'm not sure a 50—to 400 Euro increase will actually have the proclaimed impact other than making more money for the state.

Already don't fly much because of the TSA. If I could afford to fly enough to pay an extra tax I'd gladly pay. Fuck 'em. I'm neutral on travel anyway.

Fuck these totalitarian freaks!!!
How will they implement it? Hell, I'll never fucking scan my eyeball for a bank, I'll rather bloody swim across the globe, living with street dogs if need be!
No way they'll pull every country, airline and travel agency into this, I'll come & go as I please, in and out of weird, unruly countries...
Good thing I devised this as a long term strategy & tested it out this spring, using Travala to pay, so no banks involved on my side!
Yeah, they'll probably be able to manipulate the slaves in Europistan, but that's it.
Oh, and there is a new ferry soon going from India to Dubai! Been thinking that I might try that one out, now this would even be great content haha ;-)

I think the rich would suddenly find an interest in sea cruises! Or maybe even taking a train (private car) to a hiking venue and enjoy it. Aren’t there myriad ways to dodge a tax like this? Don’t they all have tax advisors?

They just find other ways to enjoy their holiday.
