Now first off I think the mechanism of fees to post in territories is a great thing, its one of the main factors that affects my writing in a good way!
That being said, how does it affect you? Or do you have any thoughts on how it works that you observe in general?
As an example I've got a couple of disciplines where I've got a lot to write, but where the fees are a bit too high, like privacy, health and firesidephilosophy.
But that is not necessarily a bad thing! It makes my mind come back to this now & again, and soon I'll get around to write something far longer and thorough for these, which will also go on my website and everywhere else.
So it leads to ambition, actually!
Also for me who is trying to condense, map out and describe super complex, organic systems that even include ourselves having this mechanism makes me think around how "stepped" writing will fit into the format.
That again is really valuable when writing a book or setting up a website with weird services ;-)

i'll admit there were several times recently where I thought "oh this link might be interesting to someone on SN", came here to post, then analysis paralysis with "which territory does this fit in?" starts, then you realize some are super expensive and that you're likely not gonna recuperate the cost of posting some obscure thing that will be interesting to 4 people here.
after repeating this process several times I just tend to share less things now

That is how getting started here is, for sure...
But I think that also is a good thing, at least to build up a really intelligent and dedicated base of core users!
Hell, even Nostr is being dragged down by BS and weak, useless shit that probably comes from the habits hammered into them when using legacy media...

If I see something like 1000 sats its likely that I'll use another territory. I paid 420 for mostly_harmless but that likely won't happen often. I think around 100 sats feels about right to me.

Yeah, I agree when it comes to posting in general.
But also some of the territories with high fee cover topics that I almost have to do something on, so the high fee actually motivates me when it comes to preparing longer, higher value posts :-)

Right, I haven't thought about it like that.
Some territories are like a blanket as in they cover a lot of topics. Bitcoin, alter_native, culture, ideas from the edge can all be used with all sorts of topics.
reply
That is also great, that some territories are really fuzzy, wide open and inspiring that way, while some are very focused on one topic :-)

After a while, not really. In the beginning it mattered a lot!

Do you think that the early phase for you shaped how you're thinking about the territories now?
I think it a good mechanism, which works even if you won't have to care too much about the actual cost, could it be a meaningful signal for most users?
reply
I feel that after your first week here, you should be able to afford any of the territory fees. They arent absurdely expensive.
reply
Of course not, for me the reason why this has an impact is because I'm on a crusade to earn in Bitcoin only ;-)

I think you will learn that in this community, it is give and take. Not just take take take. Those people end up not being very successful on SN.

I know, what I'll give is well planned, and my freedom & future survival is tied in with it...
We'll soon see what the value for value of open rebellion is!
