Jerrick was excited. He was looking forward to showing Mr Heng his comic book. Jujutsu Kaisen was his favourite comic!
Mr Heng wanted to revise the decoding of words first. Jerrick followed his example. He wrote the vowels a e i o u on the top left hand corner of the page. Then, he underlined all the vowels that were present within a word. Lastly, he drew a vertical line between the vowels and cut the word into several parts.
Jerrick enjoyed the opportunity to learn about the magic ‘e’ too. For words with the magic ‘e’, it will get the vowel to say its own name. He liked how knowing the magic ‘e’ rule made reading easier.
Jerrick consolidated his understanding of the decoding of the words with the remaining words on Mr Heng’s poster. He focussed hard. He tried his best to cut each word into its constituent syllables.
Finally, Mr Heng flipped through the pages of his comic. He pointed at the word request. It was one of the ten words in the poster. Mr Heng was teaching him useful words.
Mr Heng then pointed at the word expansion. Like passion, it contains the -sion suffix. Jerrick contributed to the lesson as his comic made the discussion richer.
Jerrick was happy about his decision to show Mr Heng his comic, His understanding of new words helped him appreciate the rich expressions in English. He could not wait for another concise lesson with Mr Heng again!
