But who pays?
Here in Portugal it's the state (all workers pay a monthly deduction of 11% for these situations and in case they become unemployed). The state pays for sick leave:
up to 3 days -> 0%
from 30 to 90 days ->55%
from 91 to 365 days ->70%
more than 365 days -> 75%
