from article:
The US Department of Energy (DOE) announces $1.5B for four transmission projects – including connecting the Texas grid to the Southeast grids for the first time ever.
The projects, spanning multiple states, will add nearly 1,000 miles of new transmission lines and increase grid capacity by 7,100 megawatts (MW). They’ll boost grid reliability, lower energy costs, and support the clean energy transition.
Clarification: The Texas grid is indeed isolated, as stated, but it’s not 100% isolated – it’s more than 99% isolated.
Um so I was out of the office Friday and half of Thursday... There are some parts of Texas that are not part of the Texas Grid like El Paso.... Maybe it deals with these areas but I will look into it tomorrow morning for sure because this would seem to be the Fed, government making a move on Texas.
Update:
Just didi a brief look at this and I wouldn't expect to see anything happen anytime soon. For one this project has been around for 10 years so its one of those has been around forever and failed to gain traction. Huge issues with landowners and this transmission line and recently we have seen that unless Congress puts the energy project into law like with the Pipeline in West Virginia then stuff is doomed to fail.
Also somehow a deal was cut to keep Texas independent even with the connection which is extremely interesting. Not sure how it was done or was legal protections it has because it seems to open Texas up to Federal Government starting to muscle in due to interstate commerce. Will def deep dive tomorrow!
