Tor is useful when you want to obscure your IP address from the place you are connecting to. I don't think its a magic bullet that makes one secure. Due to its design it is hard to know who are running exit nodes. I suspect many are run by bad actors and three letter agencies. That said, I don't use it to avoid their eyes. All depends on your use case.
