It's Saturday, thus it is poll day!
Big trade in the NBA last night. The Knicks acquired Karl Anthony Towns from the Minnesota Timberwolves for Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo and a protected first round pick (will convert to a 2nd if not conveyed in the next 3 drafts). Knicks got the best player but the TWolves got the most assets (and arguably the most value).
So, time to make a way, way too early assessment. Who won the trade?
Knicks 16.7%
TWolves66.7%
Copping out- remains to be seen8.3%

I want to say TWolves, but curious how those pieces will fit with Anthony Edwards.
Side question I had with a coworker who is a TWolves fan, after LeBron retires, who do you think the NBA will "pick" to be the face of their product, and could it be Edwards?
reply
Hard to say. NBA does have a lot of aging superstars now. Lebron, Curry, KD. I think @Undisciplined did a post about the next face of the NBA awhile ago.
Doncic, Ant Man, SGA, Wemby seem to be potential candidates for the next crop of faces of the league.

I think Edwards, he has the 'face' for it. I would have thought Ja Morant would be in the convo if it wasn't for his controversies and gun issues.
reply
I think Edwards has the temperament for it too. He wants to be the guy. You could see that in the Olympics. He was playing with Lebron et al and still wanted to be the number one option.
reply
I had the same feeling about the trade. I think it's close, just looking at the current roster changes, but the draft pick gave Minnesota the edge.
My money's on Edwards as the next face of the league, unless Wemby has enough charisma in English to snatch it away from the Americans.

I don't like that draft pick as much as I did last night. It's from Detroit. Top 13 protected next draft. Top 11 protected in 26. Top 9 protected in 27. I don't know if Detroit will be good at any point in the next few years but if they are the most you can likely expect is a mid first rounder. Still not a bad asset but not as huge a get as I expected when I heard a pick from Detroit.
reply
That's true, but one bad lottery ball bounce in the next three years could get them a nice draft pick.

I said TWolves because, as a New York sports fan, (non-Yankees/Rangers variety), the concept of optimism isn't in my wheelhouse.

I was talking to a buddy of mine and he commented that he liked the collection of playoff teams/potential playoff teams (still two seeds to be decided as you know) in MLB this year. I agreed. I will happily take any of those teams other than the Yankees as world series champs. Prefer not the Astros, but I can live with it. Anyone but the Yankees. Haha

Come on Wolves!!! For them to do well alongside Anthony it won't be difficult... he's a dynamic player... and taking into account what they say in the comments... I think it's going to be difficult to get a new marketing face for the NBA... like LeBron is...

Knicks all day not even close

Hopefully they can take down the Celtics. I hate the Celtics.
