I still don't understand the totem in Inception. I haven't really tried but it feels intentionally opaque.
But it provides the perfect little ending, where the top/spinner is going while he walks away, and it wobbles just a little, but you don't know if he's still in a dream or not. I think it's great.

Edit: just watched the trailer... Now I feel like I may have watched it... But also that's trippy because of the plot/premise haha
