I can relate with the routine thing. Somehow it was fine when I played games, MMO grinding, or in other activities, programming included. But it's mindless repetition in real life that's bothersome.
More specifically than that I think, it's when you see no potential for variation incoming. If you know it's temporary, or is a small part inside of a outside whole that is not endlessly repetitive, it's easier to cope.
Yes, I agree. I actually described this feeling in the context of freedom and options before in #674266:
I realized that quantifying freedom as merely a set of available options was wrong. For me, freedom isn’t about having many options; it’s about not falling victim to a daily routine in which I feel trapped and become unaware of my freedom. Freedom is a state of mind, and I believe that travelling the world is one option to insulate my mind from unfree thoughts.

On the topic of quitting, how often do you get that dreaded feeling upon receiving a domain renewal notice? :P
Mhh, I've been locked out of my password manager at least once because of it already, so now I check which domain needs to be renewed and then I do it immediately if it's important since I usually only need to run a script.
But if it's really just "running a script", I would have automated it already but I still haven't so I guess it's not really.
So I continue this cycle every 3 months. That's maybe the most annoying period for a programmer: juuust not often enough to automate it but still often enough to be feel like you're constantly annoyed by it. But juuust not enough to automate it and make the pain go away forever.
lol, my certificate for dev.ekzy.is actually expired and I didn't notice and I used that domain to show you what I wrote before above. Did you go through my previous posts and were hinting at that domain? 👀 I renewed it now.

P.s. like your writing style It's got a nice dose of chaos and spontaneity to it, which I can appreciate in the medium. It does read like something conjured up at 5 6 7am
lol, I appreciate it! That's the style I am going for

Haha nah. I meant it more in the sense that a lot of devs (also guilty) seem to commiserate on the experience of buying cheap domains off the cuff for app, project ideas or eureka moments and then... The renewal coming a year later as a reminder that it didn't go anywhere.

I fortunately mostly use subdomains for any personal projects, haha
But I do have a weakness for cool domain hacks like delphi.market when I actually intend to ship something for other people, yes.
