I cannot say it's more reliable, at least in my case. I had a setup where noncustodial wallet was a bank and players all had custodial wallets, so transactions between players were instant but bank to player took a second or 2 even if I had a direct channel to WoS. Also sometimes I had to restart my Tailscale as it simply won't connect. I can easily imagine doing a quick WoS installation on the friends phones to play with them, but setting up a vpn on each phone it's an overkill
