UK/EU needs Russia to lose and pay reparations to avoid fiscal disaster. But this won't happen as things stand
Obviously will not.
I'm no sure exactly when you say this comes down to UK/EU v Russia.
I see things being much more of a continuum of support with backers and a few nations, regions basically non-aligned either way. Is not what got us here a NATO 'poking of the Great Bear' ? Not that I disagree, but I think the nuances of support and adversarial positions are what brought us here. Without support and backing, I very much doubt that the UK/EU, nor Russia would be poking or engaging in Special Operation Lightning Anti-fascist Strike or whatever. There were large power groups who made or answered calls to the queries of the nations to either side of Ukraine.
But if you're saying that now the backers are silent and watch the theater from viewpoints of marginal culpability while UK/EU/RUS enjoy there self-empoverishment, I agree.
