1st NFL Sunday of 2024

I see Dak got paid. Damn that's a lot of dough for a guy that can't win a playoff game.

13 games on the docket today and fortunately everyone has made their first week pick in the NFL Survivor Pool in time so at least no one will be eliminated due to tardiness.

A few matchups I am looking forward to today:

  • Titans vs Bears- let's see what Caleb Williams looks like in regular season NFL action. They certainly gave him enough weapons to work with.
  • Texans vs Colts- Sneaky good divisional matchup here. Let's see how the Texans build off of last season's success and I don't think we can glean anything about Richardson off his four starts last season so let's see if he can start strong.
  • Cowboys vs Browns- Cowboys are underdogs on the road against a great defensive team. Eagles threw the first punch in the NFC east and showed everyone they can't play much defense but they have the weapons to rack up a lot of points and win games against good teams. Can the Cowboys keep pace?
  • Rams vs Lions- I am still not sold on either of these teams. Rams have no depth at all. Their stars are great but any of them go down and they are in trouble. The Lions had a great run last year. How much of that was based on the momentum and fervor over Detroit having a relevant team for the first time in decades and how much of it was a true SB contender? Let's find out this year.

Which games are you guys looking forward to?

Sats for all,
GR

This is really unfortunate that we can't watch any of them In India. At least you people get to watch Cricket's best events there because of South Asian people residing in good numbers there.

reply

Yes, it really is! I'm getting more and more motivated to learn how it's played, the rules and everything but we can't watch live. May be we get some highlights. Do you know where to watch highlights?

reply

Yes, we have. But we actually need to subscribe to here to watch live games.

https://www.dazn.com/en-IN/l/nfl-game-pass/

reply

Expensive.

reply

Yes. I don't know any other option. May be because they monopoly, so they have such high prices.

reply

For context, that same package is 1115 rupees/month in Canada.

Good point about it being a monopoly. In Canada/US there are many ways to get all the games so they can't charge as much due to competition.

reply

This is almost 90% higher!
I'll try to find some other option for Indians here are getting excited 😊

reply

I don't know if the site works well in other countries, but this is a site that aggregates free streams of live sports events.

Crazy when you think about it. That is definitely out of reach for many people in India. Maybe the rich people can afford it but what about the middle class?

NFL wants to grow the game internationally. You would think they would have a lite option that would just amount to a few dollars a month. Maybe you don't get all the games but you get 3 or 4 feature games a week.

I have to use this over in the UK. It's very expensive. £200 a year almost. And even then, you don't get every game because some games are "blacked out" which is rediculous.

reply

This is pure monopoly by the broadcaster! 200 euros for one game! This is riddddddiiiiiiicullllous!!

reply

It's 200 for the year which is every game. Plus some.other.content, but it is very expensive.

reply

Roughly calculating, In 200 we can get an OTT subscription in India for 3 years that too will include Amazon, Netflix, Disney etc.

reply

Oh the downside of being born in a country that rips off its residents. Sometimes I really want to leave the UK.

For some context , in Spain through DAZN, it cost 33€ per month.

In my case included as I pay for sports package.

reply

I am sure there will be some highlight packages on youtube. I usually watch the highlights on NFL Network.

reply

I think dazn.com has got exclusive rights for online streaming in India.

Methstreams

@Undisciplined laughing all the way to the bank with the Saints (holy hell Panthers are bad). With the rest of us who had Bills, Bengals, Bears, Dolphins shaking in our boots.

reply

Hell yeah! I do need the Bengals to pull off a comeback, though, or I'm out of the nostr pool.

reply

Not looking good. Patriots about to score again.

16-7 now.

reply

Allen single handedly broke the Sleeper site. I can't get in to see if you have surpassed me in points yet.

reply

It was looking pretty bleak in the first half.

reply

Yeah. I am going to need the 49ers to pitch a shutout tomorrow with 4 INTs and for Purdy to throw 4 TDs to Kittle to have a chance to win this week.

reply

Big call, wasn't sure about the saints this year. But the panthers are probably a lock for the 1.01.

reply

10-0 Cardinals. Bills have got them right where they want them.

reply

Not a very good start!! …. For the Bills of course

reply

Buffalo escaped 34-28

reply

It’s been really tight. I thought I was out.

reply

🙏🙏🙏

reply

Looking good now.

reply

Much better now! 17-24

reply

Very tight! 28-31

reply

Yes. That kickoff return touchdown was costly.

reply

The run was incredible, through all defense!

reply
reply

Looking better.

reply

Bears looking like the same old sorry team. 17-0 right now. They already have the gaff of the season, losing a muffed kickoff where the new rules force the team to be still until the receiving team touches the ball... It should be impossible, but they are the Bears!

@ek what is this? Why does this thing send me a link that makes it look like my computer is going to self destruct?

reply

It searches for x.com or twitter.com links and replies with the corresponding xcancel.com link.

xcancel.com is a nitter instance that is still alive which can be used by anyone to see twitter content without a twitter account.

reply

Absolutely in shock the Bears won that game. The Titans with an all time meltdown. Williams with 92 passing yards and zero TDs wins his debut... Unreal. Needs to be near a record for fewest passing yards in a victory, at least in the "modern/recent" era.

reply

Williams did not look good but it was his first game. I don't think the Titans are very good. Bears should have won that game.

Tough news on Love but could have been worse. Who is the Packers backup QB?

reply

Lol, seems the Packers going forward wil Malik Willis, the player the Titans traded in favor of Will Levis haha. Going to be an interesting experience, reminiscent of the Seneca Wallace/Brett Hundley years where Rodgers was hurt. But I'm relieved that it wasn't as serious as it looked.

reply

Schedule isn't too difficult in the coming weeks. Even if he has to be out 4 weeks they can probably at least go 2-2 during that stretch.

reply

Survivor Pool is looking kind of ugly right now.

16 players trailing in their games.

reply

Week 1 is always a crapshoot. Never quite sure what you get.

reply

True. On the bright side if we don't see some comebacks the pot is going to likely grow quite a bit next week.

reply

I squeaked out a Dolphins win haha

reply

Week 1 is always chaos. And I always love it.

reply

37-3 Saints on my Panthers so far.

Fuck yeah. We got 'em right where we want 'em. What is dead can never die!

reply
reply

We started out with nothing and we still got most of it left.

reply

Bengals clearly have no running game.

reply

Missing Mixon

Mixon > moss

COWBOYS!!!

reply

Looking good against a good D.

reply

They looked really good!

reply

I think their schedule is pretty favourable compared to last year.

reply

Dak has no excuses with that contract. Lamb is a beast! O-Line will only get better, barring injury and defense is fun to watch again.

reply

That kicker is unreal. I really wanted them to let him try that 71 yard field goal.

reply

Why can I get NFL+ to play on my phone or ipad but not my tv?! Making me want to cancel already

reply

Bills escape 😅

reply

Chargers win ugly game vs Raiders

Gardner Minshew didn’t tuck the ball and threw a backward pass which is a fumble

JK Dobbins speed and quickness are for real. I watched him practice in July and my first impression was he is faster than I thought

Chargers were miserable on third down and medium, 3 to 7 yards

reply

I forgot to mention: 31 yard touchdown by the Raiders after hurdling over a Chargers defender

Edit:
Tremendous play, my favorite play of the game!

reply

Win is a win. 2 more weeks to figure shit out before facing the Chiefs.

reply

Wow. Bills really almost did start their collapse early.

Can't give the Pats much credit, partially because I just don't want to, but also because the Bengals were just awful.

reply

And the Bengals dismal performance against a terrible Pats team force a rebuy decision on 8 of us in week 1. Any other upsets coming?

reply

Bills hang on. Texans hang on. Bears come back. Dolphins come back. Only Bengals holders are losers so far.

reply

That was a great week 1!! It's good to have football back.

reply

Looks like the Seahawks new coaching staff strategy is to mirror the Chiefs strategy of holding on every play.

reply

Glad to know
