Hello Stackers!

It's Monday so we're back doing "Meta Music Mondays" 😉.

From before the territory existed there was just one post a week in a ~meta take over. Now each month we have a different theme and bring music from that theme.

This month we're going after those kicks and flicks, with Swing Month!

It's a genre most wouldn't explore often so let's explore it here!

So let's hear them!

This week I'm bringing Robbie Williams and his version of Mack The Knife.

Now that's swinging. Fantastic, love the little drum solo/breakdown and the call and response from the vocals to the brass. This track is brilliant.

Great track but it's not swing. You should take a look at some swing tracks, they're always so upbeat and bouncy. You'd like them I think. Try cappuccina - nat king cole. Let me know what you think and if you enjoyed it.

That guitar solo is 🔥 but I'm not sure I'd call it a swing track.

What's a swing track? Please enlighten more on it.

Swing is a genre of music most common in the late 1930s and early 1940s.

Artists such as Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra for eg. Are famous swing artists. Or Benny Goodman, known as the king of swing. Check out Mack The Knife, in this post and Cappuccina (which I linked in a reply to zana) they're very typical swing tracks.

This is a very famous swing track you may know by Louis Prima, https://youtu.be/u3oTAlHkpjU?si=5Ma65Aw7ykNhfjhq

I didn't know GaGa had done a version of this. Love it, she's got such a phenomenal voice. This rendition is amazing. Great share.

She has a great voice always but with this kind of song she seems even more powerful.

reply

Completely agree, she's got a really powerful voice.

New age swing? Sounds very much like new age swing rather than 1920s swing. Very nice.

New age swing? It's definitely calling back to the 20s with a lot of the style. Loved that little clarinet solo.
