Lightning is so terrible that people will only use it if they are forced to. If it is the least bad option, and the next most terrible option is unacceptable.
The same is true of bitcoin.
So when is bitcoin the least terrible option. Say you're a vicodin addict, your doctor won't renew your prescription, and you want to buy some online. Well, you need bitcoin.
When is lightning the least terrible option?
Same situation, but you are making multiple transactions in bitcoin, and you realize you are better off opening a channel to not burn yourself in fees.
How many people are actually in that situation? Not that many, honestly.
People will use lightning when they are forced to. In time, more people will fit this profile. No need to bemoan the fact that bitcoin without lighting semi works most of the time with fees not that outlandish, barring fee spike days.
Maybe with improvements, 8 billion people will be able to use bitcoin custodially with lightning. But most people already don't use bitcoin custodially today, with fees relatively inexpensive.
There's a lot of concern trolling in this black pill thread.
Lighten up folks!
Something better than lightning, use it. Till then, use lightning.
Lol, Duh!
