You see a post or a comment, and it's been discussed somewhere else already. You relate the two items by clicking the “relate” icon, then entering the target URL and pressing submit.
You may get rewarded with sats by fellow SNers.
The created relationship is visible on both sides and makes it possible to navigate back and forth.
I think this would be an excellent way to collectively organise ideas and hopefully reduce spam?

Here's a post from a Daily discussion thread on the topic of "related":
What I eventually plan to do is to have a related area popup if there's a post with some cross over which should cover this case if it's implemented well.
And there's also an issue in SN's Github repo, Issue #105 for an automated method that shows possibly related posts.

What I would also like to see is an easy delete button to remove your post during the edit period. I frequently see an article I find interesting, do a search to see if it's been posted already, and then immediately realize I am duplicating something already covered. I guess I'm not great at using the search function.

Good point.
Alternatively, I would suggest displaying duplicate posts together. They would still exist as two separate entities, but they get merged for display to the users. I hope that it makes sense.

We could even go a step further and create different types of relationships:
  1. related
  2. duplicate
  3. etc.
