The main thing that nostr has going for it are the dead simple DIDs. The other parts of nostr serve a purpose but most if not all of nostr's value emerges from the KISS DID. You can tell this is the case because if you take away the relays, websockets, event format, and replace them with something else, you can still make all the important claims about nostr and build all the same features that you made before. That is to say, the main problem nostr has "solved" is providing a usable decentralized identity. AFAICT everything else is WIP and claims that the other decentralized social media problems are already solved are wrong. Solutions to those problems can emerge given enough time, effort, and most important given what I see, humility, though.

The next most important thing nostr has going for it is the fan-out store-and-serve architecture. It's unclear what could compete with it on data availability it in an ipv4 world.
