New Zealand is making a dramatic pivot, reversing a 2018 ban on offshore oil and gas exploration as renewable energy fails to deliver consistent results (law is in the parliament now to be embraced). The sudden move comes in response to soaring energy prices and severe shortages that have crippled the nation’s economy. Prime Minister Christopher Luxon emphasized the need for pragmatic solutions, pushing for the reintroduction of oil and gas projects to secure the country’s energy future. The reversal marks a significant shift away from the previous government’s green agenda, underscoring the importance of energy reliability over ideology.

New Zealand has a habit of rapidly pivoting towards free markets before creeping back into progressivism.

That may be the point, but if you can no longer supply the masses with energy and the resulting products of general entertainment, then any government will tend to return to reason

It's just historically interesting, because other countries tend to increase government control until they go off the cliff. NZ pivots a little quicker, reverses course, and then starts speeding towards the cliff again.

You were given all the resources in the world to thrive and survive. If we want to die a painful death we will go green. If we want to live using AI, we need continuous supply of energy.

If they could stay in ecological mode it would be best for the planet! but we cannot cover the sun with a finger either... the country must find a way to adapt to various energy sources and avoid shortages and avoid discomfort for its inhabitants... I think they should take Nuclear Energy into account!

A well balanced source of energy ( including all options such as nuclear, oil & gas, renewable) will give a better outcome. If someone wants to shot their own feet just denying a full range of options…
