You couldn't rely on telegram privacy since forever. Past april telegram had a bug on windows client which allowed python code execution from opening a video. When they fixed it they also said that less than 0.01% installed python and use vulnerable version of telegram. When asked how they know telegram desktop client checks every file extension sent. Since exploitable video extension were .pywz hidden as .mp4 they checked them in DMs and concluded the number. It wasn't even in privacy policy...

Few things seem a little sus to me. If he knew they are looking for him, why did he go there? He pulled Navalny move, why? Also, I hear that was asking for a meeting with Vlad when back in Baku and Putin ignored him. The suspicious side of me asks whether that was just a stint for publicity, I would say possible. I have a feeling he will be out next week and will sell even more stories.. Of course, these are just my thought on the topic. P.S. One could never rely on Telegram privacy, but I think we knew that already.

Tox is the last app standing. They cannot do anything about it. Telegram has been compromised.

I find it a chilling turn of events. The west is sliding further into totalitarianism.

At this point I think everyone should switch to SimpleX Chat.

A couple of the people that I communicate with have switched over to SimpleX. One of my bitcoin groups has also started a group on SimpleX as well.

I like TOX for private decentralised encrypted messaging.

Durov had a similar issue with VK. He will either sell it and start something new or add filters and censor the hell out of Telegram as per the masters demands.
