No, I’m not so talented. Neither do I have the time even if I were inclined to compose songs.
But as you may know, my mind is always furiously thinking about how I can get my students to remember stuff better. Hence, when I came across an app, Suno, that claims to create songs instantly based on your prompts, I eagerly gave it a try.
Currently, I’m trying to get my students to memorise seven subordinating conjunctions: because, as, since, when, while, although, & however. So, this is what I typed in my prompt:
Unsurprisingly, the song it churned out was aptly titled “Smile and Dance”.
Did Suno hit the mark? Well, it managed to include all 7 conjunctions in the lyrics:
[Verse]
We party all night
(because)
We got the right to play
(ooh-yeah!)
We lift the vibe so high
(since)
We feelin' good today
Hey hey!
[Chorus]
When the music hits
We go
When we dance
We steal the show
(oh oh!)
While we movin’ side to side
We stay together
No divide!
[Verse 2]
Although we come from far away
(far away)
United on this dance floor
Yay! (ooh yeah)
However life might face us down
Together we'll always turn it round
Round!
[Chorus]
When the music hits
We go
When we dance
We steal the show
(oh oh!)
While we movin’ side to side
We stay together
No divide!
[Bridge]
As the stars light up the night
(alright)
We'll keep shining extra bright
(so bright)
No matter what
We'll find the way
We’ll keep on movin’
Night and day! (hey hey!)
[Chorus]
When the music hits
We go
When we dance
We steal the show
(oh oh!)
While we movin’ side to side
We stay together
No divide!
Count me impressed! After that, it was a simple matter of downloading the song onto my phone and forwarding it to my students.
