Been testing this out with different Nostr clients. Really like it.
README MIT license Amber: Nostr event signer for Android Amber is a nostr event signer for Android. It allows users to keep their nsec segregated in a single, dedicated app. The goal of Amber is to have your smartphone act as a NIP-46 signing device without any need for servers or additional hardware. "Private keys should be exposed to as few systems as possible as each system adds to the attack surface," as the rationale of said NIP states. In addition to native apps, Amber aims to support all current nostr web applications without requiring any extensions or web servers.
How do I connect it to amethyst? I don't see anything in amethyst settings for connecting the two apps, but several people on nostr have told me that amethyst works with amber
reply
First you have to sign out of Amethyst I think. I had it deleted so started fresh. When I opened the app it showed Amber as an option. But you need to add your nsec to Amber and set it up before you do anything.

Thank you. This worked for me:
  • Download amber
  • Set it up
  • Log out of amethyst
It took me to a login screen with a "Login with Amber" button and that worked

If it's not obvious, the point of apps like this is to avoid having to trust every app with your nsec.

It is comparable to nsec.app right?
I think it becomes really useful when you have multiple accounts!
reply
nsec.app Yeah I am not familiar with nsec.app but they look similar.

Hmmm is there anything for iOS? I know I can do a search myself, but I'm asking for a verified exploit-less solution ;-)
reply
I think there is but I don't use iOS

It actually worked. I configured the Orbot for Android and voila. Thanks a lot.

I think damus is coming out with a nostr signer for IOS.
I've been using Amber recently, works like a charm.

This worked out the box with fountain! Amazing!

Great app, have been using it on frankie-gpt for logging in. Would be awesome if stacker news implemented this as a login mechanism. Much better for privacy than the browser extension nostr login.

This app and signing tools make it more likely I will try new Nostr apps. I have less concern about my keys leaking.
