• In addition to hot, recent, and top, you can sort posts by random (via tsmith123 on github ... I forget your SN nym ... this was a great idea by someone whose nym I forget too)
    • It's a another experiment in evergreenness
  • You can now add an NWC receive string to your NWC attached wallet (via @ek)
    • For anyone using Alby Hub, their relay is a bit unreliable, but we've been in touch and they're working on it
  • Almost forgot: you can disable freebies in your settings, guaranteeing you can pay non-custodially for 1 sat posts/comments so they are fully visible
There were also a few bug fixes in here but that's the bulk of it.

Since starting the Open Source Contributor Award Rules (OSCARs), we've paid a total of 9.25m sats to 27 contributors for 123 contributions! View an up to date list of contribution awards here: https://github.com/stackernews/stacker.news/blob/master/awards.csv

I'm loving the 'random' tab!
I refresh again and again to see my post up there. It's fun! Sometimes, I find a super interesting post and read it.
reply
It's great. Now we just need the rewards to be tweaked to incentivize zapping that older stuff. Almost there.
reply
It's really a good option. I accidently had random selected and saw a really good post that I thought was new. I zapped it and then realized it was old.

reply
I totally agree! Awesome addition! Keeps old discussion warm.
Now... how to get people to use it? 🤔
reply
You don't have to, it's new and since it's generally interesting to see what's been talked about in earlier days, people will most likely ABSOLUTELY ABUSE THE LIVING DAYLIGHT OUT OF IT!
reply
My first time hearing about NWC receive. I’ll have to check it out!
reply
I actually tried to look it up and even asked Nostr but no example of NWC receive usage yet. What’s the purpose/advantage of it?
reply
For us, it allows us to auto withdraw to your nwc wallet and send non custodial zaps directly to your nwc wallet.
reply
I think I’m getting it now. So this would be used with a wallet that doesn’t have a Lightning address, right?
reply
Yep!
reply
Thanks Koob! That’s pretty cool. 😎

Great for folks running a node without a public ip.
reply
Awesome. Now I see why you mentioned Alby Hub.
Fantastic: NWC receive!
reply
Random okay now my productivity is trending to zero now.
LNC or NWC? 🤔

LNC or NWC? 🤔
What do you mean? 🤔
reply
lol which one should I use
reply
IME NWC is more reliable/performant than LNC, more user friendly, and not tied to any particular lightning node implementation.
reply
The random tab is pretty cool, resurfacing older SN content will probably uncover a lot of hidden gems. Works well with Nostr and the new referral system.
reply
Great point! I’ve already found a bunch of stuff I totally forgot about

After the update, I can no longer change the priority of the connected wallets on mobile. I receive this error message:
failed to change priority of lnc wallet: Failed to connect the WASM client to the proxy server
(It does not just apply to LNC wallet connection)
reply
It sounds like it's testing connections when reprioritizing and it's failing.
reply
We'll have to wait for @ek to come online. I'm not sure how that all works yet.
reply
FYI, I got a failure notification with the lightning address connection which was because my Blixt wallet isn't always online. So, I tried the LNC connection through my always online node, and still got this failure. I also tried the lightning address with all channels on my Blixt wallet online, and I still could not change priority.

Changing priority currently unfortunately tries to save all wallets again (to save priority), which means they get tested again. If the test fails, the priority update for that wallet didn't go through. But it should for the other ones.
I want to change it to not test them again just for a priority change but haven't gotten to it yet.
reply
Gotcha. Thanks
reply
Yay more random things!
reply
I thought something looked different but I didn’t realize it was the “random” sort 😅
reply
Great work guys! Thanks for continuously improving SN.
reply
I like the feature. I believe, old posts will also get a boost by this random feature.
reply
I'm stoked on random sort
reply
The random sort is definitely something that would a unique spark in Stacker News gone are days of just a typical UI with hottest to the most profitable into the "database massage" idea coming into fruition. And everybody I think is embracing it.
reply
I can't zap posts on the 'random' page?
reply

Why not?
reply
I think it's a bug?
edit: never mind!

stackers have outlawed this. turn on wild west mode in your /settings to see outlawed content.
